Just a quick question, Im traveling out west for a week next week (8 hour drive), im towing a car trailer with 2 quads, fridge, generator, table, fuel drums, ramps. Question is can i tow a car trailer on a P2 class licence? Cheers.
Location would help. In Victoria as far as Im aware only P1 licences are restricted from towing all together, and P2's can tow, with normal towing restrictions.... Worth checking with your state RTA though.
from memory all im allowed to tow (NSW P2 Licence) is a standard sized box trailer, but i'd call the RTA to be double sure. Your State would REALLY help
Car - probationary licence : VicRoads Vicroads link, which pretty much says what I just said if in VIC.
Learner drivers must: Not tow any other vehicle. P1 drivers must: Observe towing restrictions (you are only allowed to tow light trailers of up to 250 kilograms unloaded weight). P2 licence holders must: Have P plates (green P on a white background) displayed conspicuously at the front and rear exterior of the car when driving. The letter P on the plate must not be hidden. If towing a trailer, a P plate must be on the back of the trailer. (Thats all it mentions regarding P2 and trailers)
just rang the RTA for my own benefit and thought id better post my results here. "keith" at the RTA call centre said p2 are unrestricted as to whats towed as long as it doesnt exceed the lead vehicle (so dont tow a boat behind a suzuki swift) as for your car trailer, go for it, just display p plates
