hey folks, im going to respray my white 97mdl vt to tiger mica gold, since the front end is allready gold i may as well as finish the job. where could i buy the paint from ? and at what price and how many litres just to do everything besides the front end. ?? cheers
hey you can get the paint from most autobarn stores, i think its about $60 a litre you will probly need about five or six litres depends on how many coats you do, you will also need the colour code for tiga mika
I remember supercheap sold the tiger for $140 per ltr Youll need atleast 3ltrs to do the rest of your car. But as tiger mica is metalic you will also need to clear coat it. 2-3 ltrs of clear should do the job
while we are on the topic of paint. where can i get satin silver paint for all of my interior plastics (dash fascia, handles etc.)? How much?
Holden may still have it, check. If not any paint shop or spray painter/smash repaired can get it for you. Since your in melbourne, I highly recommend Sav from Pakeham Paints, his quality of service is excellent, I cant praise him enough, hes spent countless emails, phone calls and even sat down with him, because I wanted to learn to pay myself rather then pay someone. Top bloke cant recommend him enough, I travelled from Sale just to buy from him.
anyone know the color code for tiger mica ? so 3 litres of tiger mica, 3 litres clear coat. how many litres of primer and how much thinners ??? cheers
Get a tin of thinners which will be enough for any nasty prep work as well as painting, but make sure its for the type of paint your using otherwise youll end up in the ****. Go for 5 litres of paint, i used 4.5 litres on my vp sedan and that was only 2 coats plus a touchup here and there. And yep autobahn will mix paint in front of you in either a spray can or tin. cheap as chips (i used acrylic)
forgot to mention hey sorry, forgot to mention, it has a cv8z front end on it, bonnet, front bar & both qtr panels are allready gold. So i only need to spray the rest of the car, 2/3 practically. ALSO while on the topic, whats the best grease type of remover to clean the car ? prepsol.. ? cheers
You will only need a bees dick worth of flex compound for the rear bar then, and maybe the side mirrors if there being painted too. I have a basic guide in the how to section which gives a general walkthrough of prep work, tools needed and how its done. I also recommend having a go with an old panel or something for practise, its not as hard as it looks but you need to know a thing or two when it comes to corners, runs, etc.
reading that again i think 3.0 litres max will be plenty for you to work with. 'should read properly' ... Now are you using a booth or just using heat lamps? For enamel paint you need a warm, humid environment otherwise youll have had enough with runs by the time your finished, clearcoating is worse off and you need to watch what your doing and only give it short, thin bursts/layers of clear if your new to it. A good tip for your clear coat, mix your clear coat with a drop of tiga mica (and whatever scraps that are in the gun) and it will give a nicer effect, will look neat!
You may aswell paint the whole thing. With my experience, paint 2/3 of something looks **** as you can tell the colour difference. You could blend it in but if you doing the doors, roof and a pillars you will notice a difference in certain angles. Dont get wax and grease remover, it actually leaves a residue on the surface. Get some MEK or general purpose thinners. Test it on a small unseen area first incase its to strong and starts taking the original paint off. Id be careful with some enamals and stay away from acrylic. Petrol can mess with both of them and **** the paint up
Silver Paint. You can get silver paint from practically anywhere. I got mine from my local hardware store. If you want it really glossy spray over the silver with clear (takes the shine off silver though) Whitenight is a good brand. Dont go export or some cheap brand, You get what you pay for.
