chop the springs??

NO NO NO!!! I didn't mean LITERALLY go the hack!! I meant go the full hack with your car: Respray, calais interior, 5 litre, petrol coversion, bigger wheels etc.

Not hack your springs LOL!! That's the worst idea ever! A mate did it on his 253 VH SL. Let's just say he is a f*ckwit and i never got in his VH again after that.

Better to save the cash and use king springs and new shockers.

2 cans per bumper? what size cans? i want to paint mine, but dont know if i should buy cans, or buy a litre of paint and some thinners

I used normal sized cans, and I probably used more cans than necessary because I did it outside in the wind, wasted a good can there I reckon. Definitely do it in a garage, take a breather every few minutes though. You'll get a more even coverage. You know, all I did for preparation was clean down with turps. I didn't do all the sanding, or primer... And it still came out good (with the exception of a few spots, but hey, only noticeable up close)! I guess with plastic it's ok to do that, but with metal it's a different story.
Are you going to do yours white again?

I might do this, even when I get a new car I'll keep the VN and do it up all myself for a bit of fun, something to do, and learning! Except maybe not the 5ltr, the 6 can pull some pretty impressive results when blown even keeping it stock!

hmm so in that case, id be looking at about $50-60 in paint cans. cans here are a little over $15 each. then a few cans of clear which is generally cheaper. my rear bar has a bit of damage so i plan on sanding it back smooth anyway, so i might use primer on that.

Dude go to Milsommes auto paint on Burwood highway over the back of my house.

Turn left onto Burwood highway from Scoresby road, and there will be a break in the median strip on your right, just after that break also on the right, is a small strip of shops, one is a Chinese shop then a driveway then Milsommes, you can't miss it, it's a blue shop front with MILSOMMES painted on it.

Ask to speak to Arthur, tell him i sent you and you want colour coded paint mixed up for your bumper in a pressure pack, he will bring your car around to the rear entrance and personally colour match it for you in a pressure pack, OR, you can buy a litre of it colour matched, then whack some in a pressure pack, and when you want more put into cans, then take the paint back and pay $10 per can to have more pressure pack'd.

Arthur and his dad are good blokes they will look after you. Arthurs brother owns a very reputable panel beaters in Burwood, goddamn you should see some of the VK's and VN's that come outta there. Paint and body work like polished GLASS!

Arthur owns a 4.2 litre V6 stroker, major head work, cam etc, the body was finished not long ago, bare metal resprayed the shell and put an original plastic SV5000 kit on it. Looks MINT!!

But yeah go in there and talk to him and he will sort you out for paint!

 They have tonnes of colours, they can make colour up easily, they have different brands of clear, hammertone, MASSIVE candy paint range, they are starting to stock Meguiars now which i am very happy about. Plus they have all sandpapers, guns, compressors. Everything you could want in a panel shop, they have.

hmm might have to check it out. what are their prices like? ive noticed that the alpine white that comes in cans at autobarn is a fairly close match to my paint. its only a little lighter but it seems to blend in after a little while in the sun.

I got my paint from this place in Clayton, in Princes Highway. $30 bux a can, but i did both bumpers and the grill. this is how it looks nearly a year later. Now bad for a backyard job.
