Painting calipers

How hard is it to paint the front and rear calipers on a VR V6 Exec? My mate Jono and I are spraying his brake hubs bright yellow to match the rest of the car (complete with VY Clubsport body kit) and we were wondering about doing the calipers as well.

Since this is done on quite a lot of cars, I was wondering how easy the job is - is it possible without removing the calipers from the car? (I don't know a lot about bleeding brake lines, so I'm hesitant to go there . . .)

Also, do the calipers need to be sanded back, or could we just spray over them if they're in good condition (black, no rust)?

i just painted straight over the calipers on my vr v6 exec, although i did use high temp acrylic.

Yeah we're using a can of Septone 'Brake Caliper & Drum Paint'. You haven't had any problems with the paint lifting??

VHT do a series of paint suited to high temp applications including a series for brakes i believe. give em' a good clean with some degreaser before painting them

did it 2 my vs... gonna need a good scrub prob gonna need something stronger than degreaser and a wire bush.. can b time consuming if u wanna clean em up properly

Easy as removing each wheel and taping up what ever you dont want paint on eg: disc, brake line ...then you can degrease the calliper and hose off then let dry and just spray high temp pant straight on...

As savage1987 said, 'Brake Caliper & Drum Paint'. It comes in bright colours and is made for it. As GROWLZ said, just cover what you dont want painted and paint them where they are. I ripped up some cardboard and just covered the rotor. Painted it with some red paint. Only did two coats i think. The colour has never faded or peeled and I did it about 2-3 years ago. Looks great. Only bad thing is the brake dush that sits on them. Takes the shine away. Bit of brake cleaner will probably polish them up nicely, but my mags make access difficult.
