Hey guys,

so i’ve taken upon myself to try and respray my statesman. trust me to paint one of the hardest colours as a first timer lol (tungsten) which is a heavy metallic. I painted the front bar which came out awesome. now i’ve painted the bonnet and experienced a lot of tiger stripes. i am a girl with short arms and struggle to reach the centre of the bonnet. i may be better off taking the bonnet off and trying again for better accessibility. any insight or tips is much appreciated. this is just a fun resto for myself so i’m not chasing perfection. thanks!

Try standing on something so you can reach across to the centre....Also remember to overlap the strokes when painting to avoid those strips you describe

Are you using rattle cans or a spray gun?

Are you trying to paint on the car or is the panel off?

If so, hang the panel, don't try to spray on the car if you can avoid it.

Spray with a wide fan, overlap each 'row' by 50%

Experiment with your mix ratio, or buy a measuring stick and mix to paint manufacturers spec.

Continually and gently agitate your gun to keep the mix consistent in pot.

i’m using a spray gun and acrylic paint. i was painting the bonnet with it on the car, ill have to take the bonnet off and try again, the only panels i’ll have to paint on the car is the roof and boot.

Make it easy on yourself and hang it. I'm 6'2" with long arms and I even avoid painting a panel on the car if I can.

it’s definitely the easier option, the outer edges of my bonnet look great, just the centre looks dodgy. WH Statesman bonnets are huge and bulky so that doesn’t do me any favours lol. but thank you for your help, much appreciated
