Hey guys,

I was just curious on how I should paint my rubbers, and what kind of paint I should be using. Could I get the paint at stores like SuperCheap, Repco, Autobarn? or more Specific shops. Any tips on doing it? I did this, this afternoon just before it got dark, was hoping to get a a start on it in the next day or two.

Hmm you'll probably need vinyl paint or something close to that, something flexible so that it does not flake.

Hey guys,

Mate, you are dealing with anodised metal, plastic & rubber here. Three different surfaces.
Technically you have to treat them all differently so your paint wont peel off.

My advice, get a GREY (fine) scotchbrite pad and a bottle of metho.
Why Metho, cause it evaporates out of the rubbers, unlike prepsol which is oily.

Scotchbrite , scuff up all the areas to be painted.
Remember if it is shiny the paint probably wont stick.

Then wipe on / wipe off with metho to clean any contaminants/wax etc....
Cover the rest of your car!!! Or suffer with the overspray!!! ( important)

Ideally a coat of plastic primer over the plastic, and might as well go over the rubber moulds as well. (SuperCheap or Autobarn sell aerosols) Metal strips dont matter.
Aerasol tin of Matt Back /Gloss Black applying even coats and letting dry a little between coats.

You dont need special Vinyl paint, Enamel Aerosols will stick to anything!!
No problems with movement over what your painting.
And UV protection is added to the paint.

Dont buy those cheap **** $2.00 ones, They are Cheap ****!!!

Minimum 2-3 coats.
Patience here will give a good result.

My pick would be Matt Black but up to you.

Let it dry before you unmask it.

All sounds easy but Spray Painting is a TRADE and it isnt as easy as it looks to just tidy up a few moulds.

Give it a go and good luck....

Hey man, thanks heaps for the advice. I knew it wasn't going to be an easy job, but it didn't click about the different surfaces.. Yeah I'll go with the Matte Black myself, not a fan of shine. I'll def be taping up the whole car, I just thought I would get a quick start on it yesterday and get the main area's covered.

Thanks heaps for the advice again!
