ok, so i'm doing a rebuild, here's the build setup so far Intel core 2 duo e6750 (toms hardware clocked one of these up to 4.2ghz) Asus P5K-1394 OCZ PC2-8500 2x1gB ram (toms hardware managed to get this to boot Windows at DDR2-1280) 1x sata2 500gB 3x sata2 250gB 1x ide 120gB gfx card is still the gForce 6, can limp on that till the gforce 8's get a bit cheaper figured that this power supply will do for now, but the new board has eSata, so down the track i'm going to want to get a new one with external sata or molex power from the back of it. (even better if it had modular cables) is anyone using or aware of a psu that has these features (or just the 1st) forgot, it also needs to support intel dual core.
Christ that is one powerhouse machine. 3x250GB HDD's????? That's nuts. Have you been on the Nintek website?? This mob have everything: Nintek Perth [ Australia's Online Computer, Hardware & Custom Built Game PC Retailer ]
I just built a pc for someone at work for their kid 320GB HDD E6750 2GB OCZ RAM ASUS MOBO 8600GT 512MB Card I used a cooler master case. CAC-T05. Powersupply included was a 400watt and included a esata connector. It didn't have three hard drives though.
cool, i'm using a coolermaster centurion now, but not a model that new. i'll check and see what power supply they put in them. internal hdd power should be ok, cos i can use molex>sata power converters. rad, just checked them out, couldn't see exactly what i was after so i chucked em an email. thanks dude.
Yeah they're fantastic cases for their price range, you should be able to get a 500watt powersupply that bolts straight into your current case.
Check out the PSU calculator. Select your bits, and it tells you how many Watts you need at the minimum. Oh, and avoid any yum-cha no-name PSUs, and Thermaltake PSUs. Go for quality like Antec, Super Flower, Seasonic, Silverstone.
Any of the brands that arrow224 said are good...another good brand is ACBel...i've built a couple of machines for customers with 350W ACBel PSUs...no trouble at all.
i've never looked into super flower, because they just sounded to retarded to be legitimate, but i'll check them out too. so still no word on a known externally powering psu?
P4's really need a minimum of 400 Watts and thats if your only running bare minium. sorry just wanted to clear that up. Now for your PSU look at the gaming ones, they may cost more but theirs nothing worse then having a **** power supply and having problems, not to mention possible damage. Look for around a 700 watt in my opinion, specially if your running ide hard drive, not sure how true this is but apparently Sata use less power. Arrow224 - Why dont u recommend thermaltake? I havent used one of their PSU yet so i cant judge but i have used their cooling components and they seem outstanding quality. Cheers Tom
Don't go with anything under 500w Go here and run the "Power Supply Calculator" It will give you your Wattz needed
Make sure its nothing under 500W and don't get generic ones, get good ones like Thermaltake, iGreen etc....
Thermaltake PSUs - OCAU Wiki "However, Thermaltake thought it necessary to stick a label on this power supply that declares an output power of 400W and even promising a peak output power of as much as 500W! But as I made sure in my tests, even 300W is too high a load for this power supply." X-bit labs - Roundup: 14 Power Supply Units from Thermaltake (page 7) Give a review of the W0023 Around the computer scene, Thermaltake are known for their massive drops on the 12V rail, the most important one. I read one that supplied 11.2V on the 12V rail during peak load, which is not good at all.
Thanks for that, i understand the volatge importance as im doing a course in computer hardware, just wasnt sure why you didnt recommend thermaltake. As i said above their cooling equipment is outstanding. I was having so much trouble keeping my computer cool, spent heaps on fans even had to run a house fan at the comupter with the case off in summer to keep it cool. I ended up buying a TT Golden orb II processor fan and a small TT case fan and it stayed cool all summer unless i was playing a demanding game. I'll stay away from their PSU's though, actually just bought a new PSU as mine packed in, just a cheapyof ebay for the time. 55 bux for a 550watt silent one, cant complain. Cheers Tom
thermaltake is an awesome brand of case and power supply they may be a little more expensive but its worth it. I just built two pc's with the same hardware just different cases and you can tell a major difference in just how quiet the thermaltake is btw im using a thermaltake sorprano and im also a big fan of asus theyre constantly improving the quality of computers
