I am hoping to hear from folks of any successful approaches to removing the valve to do the drill mod. I know fu manchu said vice grips with a bit of cloth but were they straight or rounded..grab it from side or from above..can i spray penetrating oil on it. Coil packs are off..heater tap is pushed to side and there is a little wiggle room under the loom. I am going to buy a set of vice grips tomorrow..probably long nose. Any thoughts welcome.

can use multi grips or even a flat head screwdriver to pry it up

Yes just grab it with the normal rounded Vice grips from the radiator side. Wiggle it and pull up and out.

Twist it first. That breaks the thread lock. It’s not threaded. It’s pressed in but thread lock is used to make sure it stays there. It stays there without it.

Long tip vise grips are best. From memory, it’s get it from the top, say on a 45°. Twist and then pull and wiggle it. You can also do that with the PCV.

Actually scratch that.

Went back through my photos and Im quite sure that I had the vice grips almost vertical on both the VE and the VZ.
