I don't understand what you mean by compartment with a door. I thought it might be something to do with the alpine complete system. Is that something that is on a standard clubsport or VE?

I thought you meant the one at the base of the headunit. On a computer, rather than my phone at the traffic lights, I can see you have the fine red square drawn round the little panel top right of the headunit. In the E2, it's for switching Magnetic Ride Control on and off.

I lodge my phone in the compartment at the front of the console in one easy movement.

Also, I'd be more focused on replacing that gear knob than a phone cradle.

My gear knob was peeling when I bought mine and just kept getting worse.

Did my head in so had to replace it.

I got a standard replacement on special from Holmart about 18 months ago.

Around $180 IIRC.

What is everyone using?

I'm using a cheap parklea markets special at the moment that uses the air vent to hold it up. The problem is, I have a black car and it stops most of the airflow from one side of the vents.

Looking for ideas, never had a lot of luck with the suction cup system.
