So everything is signed and im picking up my 2005 VZ on wednesday, so now comes the research for mods.

so what im looking for is a bit info on a few things because i know nothing about VZ's and i assume they are quite differant to my VS.

i got a bit of cash do to some mods so im gathering a list and getting some prices on things.

    so heres the questions....

Exhaust..... i want a good sounding exhaust without the drone, my VS has redback extractors and a 2.5" redback catback without a resonator and it sounds awesome, i was considering a twin 2.5" for the VZ but ive read that ill get the dreaded highway drone with that, is this true? has anyone got some videos of thier VZ V6 so i can get an idea of sound?

Lowering.... im getting some super low springs supplied with the car and im going to look at getting my gaurds rolled ASAP but im wondering do i need shortened shocks front and rear for super lows or just in the rear? also is it just as simple to lower aVZ as it is a VS? i lowered my VS myself and it was a piece of ****.

instrument cluster.... how hard is it to change an executive cluster to say an SS or Calais? im guessing wiring is differant and such but how much work is involved in it?

Well thats all i can think of for now, any help muchly appreciated :D

You can put a higher level cluster in, just make sure it's from a VZ, 'coz the VY connector is different.

It will plug straight in - no physical modifications necessary - you don't need a new BCM, as some will tell you. What you DO need to do though is go to Holden after it's fitted, so they can set up the calibrations for your car. They'll plug in their Tech2 machine and set this up for you - at a price of course....

    sweet, sounds nice and simple..

better than the old slice and dice for the VS, ill keep an eye out on ebay for a cheap cluster.

The 2nd hole in the air box is a good'n as far as I know.

Only 2 days to go on my VZ and it's out of warranty so I can hack the air box up to do this mod.

yeah the alloytec likes to breathe, twin 2 1/2 will give good gains. but i belive twin 2 1/4 is the best, but i dont know if anyone makes a bolt on exhaust in that size

Ok got a quote today for rolling my gaurds, they estimate $200-$300 depending on how much they need to be rolled and deping on if the paint cracks, problem is i need to lower the car before they know how much they need to be rolled.

how bad will the camber be on the rears if i put some super low springs in it? will i need to get a camber kit for it straight away?

and lastly, i wanna put my rockford fosgate 6" speakers into the front doors today but i dont know where to start or even what size speakers are in the front doors of a VZ, will my 6" rockfords fit? also anyone got some tips on getting my door trims off? are they just clipped on like a VS?

    cheers

the rockies will fit to the door pods, to remove the trims, 1. pull the lock knob up and using a small pick pull the red clip out, there is a hole in the bottom of the clip to get it out, 2, remove the cap out of door handle and remove the screw, wriggle the handle out of the hook holding it in, 3 pull the plastic demister cap at the top of the door trim by pulling off, 4, lever up the mirror switch with a small screw driver and disconnect the wiring, 5, then remove the screw around the out edge of the trim, 6, then lift the trim up and out from the door

the rear end of a vz is adjustable, so just tell your reputable wheel aligner your suspension setup and ask them to adjust to suit

Well i ripped off the drivers door trim to put my rockford fosgates in and well.... they dont fit :S the plastic thingy that the standard speakers sit is too small to hold my rockfords, i had to cut the back out of it to jam the speaker in but the actual hole is too small, thats very odd considering they fitted perfectly to my VS.

the realy wierd thing is once i put it all backtogether the standard speaker on the passenger side actually sounds better than the rockford fosgate, it has a heap more bass, is alot louder and alot clearer :S im guessing its due to the speaker not sitting snugly into the bracket because they sound freaking awesome running off my 500w kenwood amp in my VS

if the fosgates are running off the factory h/unit with out an amp, it will sound like crap, the h/u wouldnt have enough power to utilise there potential but the forean paper cones are suited to the h/u so it sounds better, ive got, kenwood 4 way 6 inch in my car and they fitted in fine

i worked out why they didnt fit, i had the 6.5" 3way's i thought they were 6". i bought some spacers but they didnt lift the speaker far enough out and was hitting the window and if i add a double spacer its not going to fit under the trim.

i bought another pair of rockfords yesterday the 6" 2way's and they fitted snugly into my door, they still dont sound too good but ive decided ill be putting my old headunit in this weekend anyway.

I have just finished installing a sub and amp in my car (Pioneer 600w 4ch bridgeable amp w/ 1200w 12" Pioneer Kevlar low profile sub) , running off the stock head unit and using the cars stock speakers (for now). The sound is bloody brilliant. I was worried as ****e that the boot was going to rattle like a mofo and the numberplate was going to dance, but non of either. Anyone else experience this? I must say Prodigy CRANKS in this thing now ....
