hey guys, just wondering how you can become one of those escort drivers for oversized trucks. always thought that would be cool to do.

Yeah, and boring!

Driving at 20km/h following a truck carrying a dunny-block all day? :w00t:

Some people like driving.

I'd rather that, then sitting in a little cubicle on the phone all day.....

There is a course. This is in vic.
I'm a certified pilot vehicle driver and you have to do two courses, one is a course run by vic roads for the pilot vehicle itself which takes a good day to do.
Then you do another course for the stop/go management. Basically you can't have one without the other.

Are the courses compulsory, if so what do you need to be floating for it to be a requirement? I've done it for family friends before, but havent done and courses, I dont want to get them or myself in the ****.

You will get in the **** big time if you're caught.;)
Over dimensional loads, meaning length and/or width require pilot vehicles. Depending on the size of the load, only one vehicle may be required at the front but in some cases vehicles are required at the front and back, and in some cases a vic roads escort is also required.
Not only do you need a licence, but your vehicle must be propery fitted with a class 2 reflective oversize sign at no more than a 45% angle on the roof of the vehicle. Plus you need to carry certain items in your vehicle. Flags, strong broom, vest, stop/go just to name a few.
I couldn't believe the **** you need to do this but given that you're responsible for what you're escorting i can see why.;)

Ahhh ok, Ill let them do it themselves or pay someone haha, never knew you had to do a course, actually i wonder if they know haha.
Car is decked out to do it, though wouldnt have a stop go sign.
Only doing it when moving the big tractors, and have been asked when moving dozer/excavators but generally they can do that themselves anyway.
