Hi, can anyone help me here? I've got a Pioneer GM-5000T amp, and I was reversing out of my driveway and the bass stopped. I've checked all the fuses, and there's still power goin to it, but the amp itself wont turn on (it has a bright blue power light). I didn't even have it any where near full noise, and I don't run it anywhere near full capacity anyway.
Have you cheaked to see if it is putting power out through the speaker wire terminals? is so maybe one of the connections has come off (i am assuming it is powering a sub) in the actual inclosure which connects the sub to the terminal block on the out side of the box. Ater this take it back to the shop I guess.
I've checked and double checked everything. Problem with takin it back to the shop is that I'm 300km away... In the country. Gotta love that. Thanks anyway guys
Do you have a multimeter? If so lets do a couple of simple checks and see if we can at least locate the problem first. I'm presuming that amp is switching on at all, no protection light coming on. Use the multimeter and check to see if there is actually 12Volts on the amp terminal, just because the fuse is fine doesn't mean it isn't actually getting past it. I recently had a problem where the fuse was overheating just before blowing. Turned out to be a faulty fuse block. Also measure to make sure there is 12Volts coming down the trigger wire. Measure the Voltage from the terminals using the negative terminal on the amp. Remember that voltage. Then measure the voltage again but this time, use the actuall earth point on the car as an earth and compare the two voltages. Any more .5Volt diffence indicates a bad earth and needs to be either retensioned or replaced/upgraded. Set the meter for resistance, disconnect the speakers. and measure the speakers. They should read 4 or something very similar if it reads 0 then the speaker has shorted out and is causing the amp to switch off. If you disconnect the speakers does the amp switch on? If so, the problem is in the speakers. What happens if you push gently on the cone of the speaker? Does it start working for a breif second? If so, the tinsel leads in the back are shot and need to be either resoldered where the break is (you won't see the break except for a slight burn mark) or replaced entirely, depending on the severity. Thats the most I can think of at the moment, will come back with more as I think of them.
Ya wouldn't believe it. The 60A fuse was playin up. It wasn't blown or anythin, it just didn't wanna play. Thanks heaps for ya help, I'm keepin my eye out for a circuit breaker to replace the fuse idea. Lol. Thanks again
