I have an 01 Monaro, 5.7 with 86k since new, this car is my wifes and has had an easy life apart from getting the cobwebs out now and again, I have always used Mobil 1 and had it seviced by the same dealer, I have asked about the engine chatter over the years and before I left on this trip to cairns I had left it overnight for them to check what I said had become piston slap, they said it was ok, after we left Melbourne on the 16th July, each morning start became worse with an oil usage of 1ltre on the first day, oil consumption has been ok since, performs well BUT the noise is disgusting, when I rang holden and the dealer and said you know its a fault, the reply was bad luck ! its well out of warranty time wise, but well under K wise. I am retired and the last thing I expected was to have to rebuild an engine on a car so well looked after, when my mates SS went after being thrashed, they replaced it without any hassle, I feel morally they should do something ?? I have read the reports saying it wont hurt, BUT look at peoples faces when you are parked at a motel under a tin roof and fire it up at 7am, how can you keep driving it.
    cheers all..

The oil usage can be explained. If you nana it around town for ages it will burn a small amount of oil, but the dipstick won't move. I believe there's a buildup of fuel in it. Then on the open road running for a long period of time the oil level will drop significantly, making it seen like its used a huge amount of oil over a very short period.

    Terrible response from Holden though
