G'day all, Just joining up as I'm pretty keen to buy my new SV-6 ute after tax time. I love cars and I'm pretty fond of this ute but my knowledge of the workings of cars etc. is pretty poor. I was just wondering if anyone can advise any particular tips/things to watch out for when dealing with the dealership, and possibly any advice in relation to good insurance for someone freshly on their red Ps (late bloomer) Thanks in advance guys.
Welcome If you have not bought a car before, take someone with you who has good knowledge. Work out what YOU are happy to pay and know when to be quiet and let your friend do the deal for you. Have signals pre worked out to be prepared to walk out the door when the dealer becomes a d1ck. Set a day aside to go from one dealer to another and remember you don't have to do the deal that day, they will come chasing you. Good luck
dont take it to the dealer....... My car hasnt been serviced at a dealer. Only warranty stuff has been done. Edit: Actually thats a lie. I did have the 3000k and the 15000k done there because I got the 15000 thrown into the deal of the car. Afterwards it has been serviced at my performance shop
Thanks so much guys. Pretty sensible advice once you think about it haha Cheers for the heads-up guys
Tips for dealing with dealer: 1. Be prepared to walk away. 2. Negotiate on both price AND free stuff they can throw in. They may not be able to go lower on price but may be in a position to throw in something to get the sale. Tips for buying a car in general: 1. Take someone who knows what they are looking for 2. If your still not sure, get an NRMA inspection on the vehicle: Vehicle Inspections | Now At All Of Our Locations Across Sydney | Newcastle and The ACT | NRMA Motoring & Services 3. Read the warranty carefully so you know exactly what you. 4. Even if you thing you've got everything under control, get an inspection anyway.
Have your finance already sorted before walking into dealership. And if at all possible, when ready to buy make sure you've already test driven the car. What I mean is, when you walk in to a dealer and say "I know what I want, already test driven the car and dont need convincing to buy, lets talk turkey" they know you arent just a tyre kicker wasting their time and you're actually serious about buying. Finances good to go, and being prepared to walk out of dealership if the deal doesnt suit you are the two biggest things. I've had a salesman come running after me down the street to get me back into dealership once . Everything Jesterarts has said is good too... take a friend with you for morale support. Two heads better than one, and also a good excuse when the pressure is on to say that you'd to chat privately for a few minutes. Puts the pressure back on salesman and gives you a breather to discuss things with mate. Also be realistic with price/know your market. No use pushing for unrealistic price if market is paying more. Waste of your time and theirs. Research and know what competitors are charging. Great way to push for extras or lower prices when you can show the dealer they arent being competitive (paper ads and internet addresses are great ammo).
Couldn't have asked for better answers guys. Thanks heaps Looking forward to my new baby. Just gotta get my finances sorted and find the best deal. Thanks again guys looking forward to more Commodore filled days down the track
Not much to add to what has already been said but what dealerships were you thinking of checking out? There are good ones and suss ones local to you.
Didn't really have it set at this stage. I was gonna work around from home (parramatta) and just sort of work myself around until I find someone or a deal worth settling on. Where are the suss ones?
Welcome to the forum and to the wonderful world of Ve's. Enjoy the car, post some pic's, avoid taking what some people say on these forums too seriously (afterall they are Aussies) and most of all, dont eat yellow snow or makes friends with a man whocan clap while he dances. Oh, my advice is to use the internet to shop around first. Get the best possible price online either by viewing ads or emailing requests, then you have a line in the sand (so to speak). Dont tread over th eline, no matter what they offer you and dont be tempted by free this, free with that stuff. There's plenty of advice on this site about where to get your aftersales stuff from. Enjoy the battle.
Car Salesman are all liars. Take what they say to you with a grain of salt. If you negotiate free accessories, services or whatever else, make sure it IS written on the contract of sale. If your new car needs to be built ask the Salesman to write down the expected delivery date on the contract. Push them hard and don't sign anything until your offsider and yourself are happy with the deal. Enjoy your new car!
Plenty of good advice here, and as UFO said, have your finances in order, cause a good thing to keep in the back of your mind is, a salesman will virtually crawl over broken glass for a cash sale with no trade. And take ya time, good luck.
Welcome mate iam sure you will get some got good advice on here so hes mine for looking for a new car: Go to carsales.com.au and search for your car and some dealers have some good specials then go to your Dealer and say thats what there offering you do better than them. I bought a Clubby today for cheap and some dealers could not sell one to me for that price but some dealers just make sales just to turn over there numbers. Cheers
Dont forget the secret code. go back to school and learn morse code to get a better deal!!!! WTF Get a back bone and go buy the car!
