I have a 1998 VT commodore. It appears 2 run well but will suddenly stop dead with no warning,no sputtering or noises. If I leave it for awhile approx 40mins it will start again no probs.Sometimes it will be fine for days then it will breakdown 4x in a short trip.Diagnostics says nothings wrong and can't fix it unless it stops while they're running the check.Been to autoelectricians and replaced crank shaft sensor and coils.I need my car 2 get to hospital for treatment every 2nd day and can't keep stopping dead in traffic having to get help to get it off the rd.
well you have done the most likely fault, I assume a new genuine CAS fitted when it stops does it go to red lights on dash? when it dies does it still crank ok and again do you have a good functioning key remote any history on the car, been modified, in good condition etc
I only bought car8mths ago,it had only 1 owner and the service books were all up to date and done approx every 10000kms.No mods have been made to the car, parts were brand new genuine holden and holden mechanic.Just noticed battery light flashes a couple times b4 it stops dead then the other lights come on.Won't kick over again for awhile after its stopped. If I keep attempting to start it again it just flattens the battery.Key remote is all good and car runs great, quiet as a mouse, plenty of power except when it dies.Seems to do it when going slower in town never on a freeway or long stretch of rd.Just paid to replace plate underneath coilpack today.
I am really pleased to see a well maintained car , will make it a lot easier to diagnose be careful with the phrase kick over most interpret that as cranking, i assume you mean it cranks but won't attempt to fire have a real good look at connection on back of alternator with engine running try wiggling the three plugs and looms in engine bay drivers side just under windscreen and see if it stalls also another user on JC had a loom earthing near thermostat housing try giving that a wiggle
