    Spark Plug Issue(kinda Urgent)

    okay guys, my car has been running like a bag of sh!t lately and its really starting to annoy me, its using fuel like u wouldnt beleive, and i meen half a tank will last me 100kays, i pulled the plugs out about 10 mins ago and this is what i found

    look like runnig rich......(lol)

    when i pulled my ones out of me vn they were nice and clean (not whisle clean as in blinding me with shine lol) but clean so i know mine are running good

    but yeh those dont look good looks bad as there has been blow back i guess u could say around the insulator

    what would cause this to happen, what woulda caused them to crack

    they could have cracked from old age or when u were taking them out (quite easy to do)


    what brand plugs are they??

    ill sugest new plugs (obiously) and leads

    NGK, and i think theyve been cracked for awhile cause theyre black inside the cracks

    well hasnt been done for 18months but ive only done prob 6000kays

    The spark plugs can also be cracked if they are overtightened on install, which can start off very small but obviously gets bigger with the heat. There are a couple of good pages about spark plugs that you can get to just by googling. Here is one:

    Has a good description of the causes that result in plugs not working properly with pics. If all is running well the old spark plug should be a tan colour.

    My feelings are that the plugs in the picture appear to be normal - the oil on the outer insulator only indicates they have not been changed for a long time - the oil on the threads is the same - the actual nose of the plug which is the bit that does the REAL work appears normal. Plugs will not show a "tan" colour - unleaded fuel saw the end to that indication.
    The cracks are due to the way they were installed or removed.
    If they were on my car I'd change them for sure and take particular care when installing them....otherwise don't worry.
