Definately. Political correctness is the opposite of free speech. How can you have a democracy without freedom of speech.
Yep.. It's nuts.. I was at work the other day and was describing someone from another store to a manager, to find out who they were. I said they were Asian and someone piped in that I was being racist.. After a bit of an outburst from me, that person felt pretty stupid. So they should.. As a man of colour myself, I hate people pussy footing around.. I know I'm black, it's no big secret.. It's okay to say it.. Of course a line must be drawn somewhere, but this is just nuckin futs..
I seem to have more of a problem with people using "privacy laws" as an excuse to not giving information and/or not to do something. PC was worse 5 years ago but Privacy seems to be taken over. OH&S is another excuse giving it a run for i'ts money. Reaper
Hehehe yeah I know about that one. I consider myself one of the most racially tolerant people and when I'm describing how to find somebody - if your Asian, Indian, Eskimo or whatever, thats what I'll discribe you as. If you are embarrassed by your heritage then that's sad but it isn't my problem. IMHO there is a huge difference in describing somebody as black/Asian/whatever and mis-treating or abusing them because of their background. Reaper
OHS is bulls**t. A bit off topic. Is anyone else noticing alot of white people calling other white people or their own mates niggas? Well not alot but I have noticed a few and its just bloody stupid. There were two white guys fighting at the pub the other night and they were both calling each other that while they were fighting. I felt like telling them to shut the f**k up. Listening to too much hip hop maybe. But then again I listen to hip hop religiously and I dont say it.

To be honest, I think people should be considerate, thoughtful and respectful (You see the ding coming out now don't ya?). However, I think that we, as genuine Aussies, should be entitied and allowed to keep our unique and laid-back larikin persona alive and well. Political correctness is not faecal matter at all. I was discussing this just the day before this day with my friend who likes curry who's family is from the impoverished country that used to be under British rule and who dislike their neighbours due to a dispute over a parcel of land. He said to me "go have sexual intercourse with yourself you implement designed to make bolt removal, screwdriving or hammering easier"
A lot of elderly (and not so elderly) black Americans are actually pissed off at the use of the word "nigga" in so much rap music and just plain as a normal term of speech amongst black youths. They say the younger generation of blacks don't understand what the older generations had to go through to try and stop people using that word, and now it seems to be almost "socially acceptible". I do of course remember that episode of some US drama show where a bunch of high school guys are walking along a school corridor, mostly black guys with one white guy who is obviously good friends with them, and they are calling each other "nigga's", and then the white guy says to his black friend "hey, come on Nigga, what you worried about?", and promtly gets seven shades of **** kicked out of him and almost killed...:yeah: Nice bit of double-standards there...
All that needs to be said! In a nutshell. The purpose of "political correctness" is to take away the right to freedom of speech on certain topics, usually those dear to the hearts of the "progressive left". It seeks to stifle rational debate and promote/mandate minority views in areas where the majority regularly do not agree. The apparent aim is that by stopping debate/publication of alternate views, then future generations will be able to be brainwashed into conforming with the "politically correct" viewpoint.
