2001 VX Berlina Supercharged 3.8
Hi everyone, I'm new to the forum and I haven't stopped reading for about 4 hours now. I hope someone can offer some advide.I've just bought a 2001 VX Berlina Suprcharged in really good condition throughout. Full history and the guy that I bought it from had it since new.

The problem I seem to be having is that, even though I'm driving sensibly, I can't get the economy anywhere below 15.4 ltr/100kms. I was expecting to be around maybe 12 to 12.5 around the city. Am I wrong with this assumption?

Also, for my own piece of mind, I will be servicing the car straight away, replacing just the basics, oil and filter, air filter, etc.
Can anyone suggest what I should be looking at while doing this, and is there anything else that I should be looking at for the fuel economy?

Thanks, this is such a great forum. :)

Woody.

In addition to your servicing:
Plugs (Standard NGK's)
Leads (Genuine is preferable)
Fuel filter
Clean MAF (You can search how to do this, doing this every few months keeps fuel consumption in check)
Clean IAC (You can search how to do this)
Bottle of injector cleaner with a full tank of fuel
Use 98 octane fuel only!
Take battery leads off for 30 minutes and reattach so the ECU relearns its tolerances based on your driving style.

I also think that replacing the oxygen sensors could be beneficial, they lose their efficiency over time.

Untuned mate, sounds bout right.

City driving is a killer. I seen V6, I6 ford do the same and they arent SC.

Do as advised above,

Thanks for all your suggestions, its given me something to look into. What an excellent site! I'll research and do the suggested cleans. I do have another question if you guys don't mind?

Just before I picked the car up, the previous owner said he had pressure cleaned the engine (I would have asked him not to had I known) and since then I have noticed a rather significant sound under the bonnet. I first thought it was belt squeal, so I used some silicone spray and cleared that problem up.

However, now there is this sound that, if I had to guess, sound like the air escaping from a cracked intake manifold gasket (I had one on a previous Ford), but it wasn't there during my pre purchase checks and only seems to have happened since the engine clean?

I'm just wondering if the superchargers have any sort of sound like this. It doesn't sound like bearings or anything, just like air escaping. Any thoughts would really be appreciated. Thanks again, everyone.

Take the supercharger belt off and see if the noise goes away

Thanks, I didn't know that it would be okay to run without the belt. I've only done the basics in the past. I've had the bonnet up and its really hard to pinpoint the exact location of the noise . I'll look up how to remove the belt and see if that's it.

This site is a great source for information . No doubt you'll see me asking questions all around the forums (after I've searched the threads of course ! )
