Ok guys, I popped down to the local auto-pro today to enquire about performance induction, cold air induction and a new exhaust set up for my VZ SV6. I'm keen on putting a K&N filter and I recently found out they have complete intake set ups. Unfortunately, K&N, being a US brand don't make these set ups for the awesome alloytec. Does anyone know of any other brands with complete set ups? I then enquired about Cold Air Induction. SS Inductions was mentioned, but the guy I spoke to said he had one fitted to his EL Falcon and it made no difference and the set up for the Alloytec was about $600. I have also read on these forums that a better option is DIY but I am not that handy under a bonnet, so I am really unsure about that. Does anyone know of other companies that make cold air induction set ups and also other induction set ups? He then mentioned exhaust mods, which at first I wasn't keen on as I thought it would cost in the thousands to buy and fit, but then he mentioned it can be done for under $400 and I really took notice! I was given 3 quotes for cat back systems. A brand called PEX came in the cheapest, just below Red Back, which he said was really good with the alloytec systems. Finally I got him to quote me a Lukey system. He admitted he hadn't heard a Lukey on a VZ. He would put his money behind a Red Back system, but admitted he would like to do a lukey on a VZ. Has anyone heard all three and can comment on them? Any other systems I should look at? Cheers guys:thumbsup:
No other inductions out, I've looked into it quite a bit. Stay away from the SS inductions! I've heard of Red Back and Lukey. I know Lukey exhausts are really decent. How much did they quote you for the 3 different setups? I'm interested in a cat back as well and I want to spend $400 or less. Cheers Mat
The Lukey system was the most expensive at about $380 and the PEX system was the cheaped at about $320 and the Red Back system came in the middle I reckon. I am really keen on getting a K&N filter so I was a little ****ed off that they don't make the complete intake. He said the pod filters do tend to leave oil about the engine bay.
what you need to do is fit a k&n filter, same filter from vt-vz, then do the second hole mod, look in the vz how to sticky at the top of this sub forum, exhaust, go with a single 3 inch or twin 2.5inch, apparantly a single 2.5inch sounds like poo. there is a good exhaust thread somewhere, ill dig it up
Thanks for your help andyman. So you think it won't matter too much who does the exhaust as long as its a twin 2.5" set up. Is it worth replacing the whole exhaust system you think?
The exhaust from the cat back wont really give you any performance gains, only a little better top end The cat back system is more for sound, makes your car sound like a car and not a golf buggy Just get a 3" single with both front muffler and rear resonater, or a twin 2.5" with center hot dogs and rear resonater, both will loose bottom end torque but will gain a little more topend, they both sound fairly good, just dont buy one of those crappy single 2.5" systems every brand is selling as they sound absolutly awful On eGay at the moment there is a enclosed Pod air filter setup being sold for the Alloytec, its like the V8 one they sell at repco for $500 but this one is under $300 here's a link: I have done more to my VZ Ute and will be doing a compiled detailed list of all mods I have done with photos and howtos in the next few weeks Hope this info helps you a little, I would recommend that you get extracters as well, that brand (Pex) Have some awsome ones called "Hurracain" and they sell the matched highflow cats
There you go, lol on a side note kung foo you may want to edit your post, i think you may have mis-spelt something, haha
Thanks guys. I have had a look at the 2 hole air box mod, looks like a gem. Has anyone made their warranty void by doing this mod? Regarding the exhaust, has anyone heard a lukey on an SV6 and how does it compare to other brands?
Just a question regarding the 2 hole mod: in this instruction set he's removed the standard intake tube from the radiator cover. Does it matter if I leave it and or replace the 90 degree tube with one with a gentler curve? I am also thinking of ways to get air from the front air dam so I will keep you guys posted. I have seen a Pulsar with this set up and it went awesome, however, the engine bay in the puslar had a lot more space than a commodore.
That 2 hole mod is crap, just pull the airbox out and cut a huge hole in the lower half right inline with the headlight, then it makes a difference, if your worried about warranty, buy a new lower box from holden, should be about $50 then chop that one up, I have actully cut most of the bottom half away, can see it from the top, makes a huge growl when floored, also throw a K&N filter in there as well
Have you actually noticed a difference in performance though? When you say cut away most of the bottom half, how much are we talking? It seems no one can agree on two hole mods, SS inductions and K&N cold air intake systems and they work for some and not for others.
