Thought I would throw my 2 cent's in for what its worth. When purchasing the SS I looked at putting HSV Rims on etc,etc but decided against it as I could not afford a half decent set of tyres to go on the rim's. As this is a daily driver and I have to put my kid's in the car and as BRAD87 said, Tyres are the most important part of the car, its what keeps you on the road. Never, ever skimp on tyres. A friend of mine put their SS into a ditch in the wet going around a corner, not speeding, and drives like a Nanna. I won't mention the Tyres but they are made in China. I have used Bridgestone Adrenalin for the last 10 years, the aussie made ones not the Japanese ones and found them to be a good all rounder. At the end of the day 10 people will give you 10 different answers on the same tyre, do your homework and remember if its cheap, its cheap for a reason !!!!!
Has anyone heard of Sumitomo Z111? According to my local tyre shop it is made by Dunlop and its suppose to be better then Bridgestone R050, which he showed me some independent tyre testing article. I've got set of those on my car now, it cost me around $300, so far so good.
Yes, i had them on my previous car to which i found to be noisy on rough bitumen but quiet on the smooth stuff. They also give off a loud howl if you want to have a little sideways fun in your car. Good for the price but i wouldn't buy them again. Also Sumitomo Rubber Industries is part of a large group of companies including Dunlop, Goodyear & Falken. Edit - On a side note, does anyone have a 245/45/R18 with loads of tread that wanna get rid of? Looking to fit one to a SV6 rim as a full size spare.
I'm running now on Perilli P Zero Nero. 235/55/R17. It's the best I've ever owned. I was impressed by it's traction on the dry and wet. And best of all, Although I drift with this tires it never worn out. I recommend Perilli P Zero and Michelin Pilot Sport PS2. My Perilli cost me 280 each. I don't know about the Michelin though.
I have factory Yokokama's on my sv6 and they are bloody noisy at high speed ! Not sure what to get next time I do tyre shopping
+1 on that. VERY good advice. It's not the flash 18, 19 or 20 inch rims that keep you on the road but the 4 little patches of rubber between you and disaster. Too many people still upgrade rims and then put cheap tyres on them because they don't want to shell out the cash required for decent quality tyres. I also agree on the Bridgestone Adrenalins for Commodores. I have found these an excellent tyre in all conditions and reasonably priced for a performance unit, especially when you buy when they are running them on sale.
may sound cheap and nasty, but i run nang kangs on my commy and have not had a single problem, they grip well in the wet and dry, wear nicely and are pretty well priced ( 160 i think each on 18's ) .... just throwing it out there, you guys might not agree
Hi, Just replaced tyres for the first time at 56,000 Km. Two were at the legal limit, and two had about 1 mm above the wear limit band. I have put on Goodyear Eagle LS2, which were OEM for the Pontiac exports. The excess have apparently been auctioned off, and some have appeared on Ebay. I bought mine for $170 each at Arncliffe. I have done about 100 Km, and am very happy so far. They are quieter than the RE050A's, and I don't seem to have to fight the steering over serious bumps on the road so much anymore. 245-45-18 GOODYEAR EAGLE LS2 TYRES *BRAND NEW* VE COMM (eBay item 250714540948 end time 31-Oct-10 12:28:53 AEDST) : Cars, Bikes, Boats As a price comparison, Holden dealer in Glen Waverley Victoria is selling them on Ebay for $290 + $50 shipping.
