Hey guys. I just bought a vl that does not have power steering. This isnt a massive concern, but im just wondering how difficult the process is of putting in a power steering unit. And do you think its worth it?
I have been told that when you convert it to power steering, you lose all feeling of the road. Is this true?
All opinions welcome.

ps. See my other thread if you wanna help me out with my engine hezitation when accelerating.

losing all feel of the road is just plain BS!!
to convert you will need
powersteer rack, lines, reservoir, pump, engine bracket, belt and maybe the pulley. most of which you can buy at a wreckers but pay special attention to the rack and pump for evident leaks. a new/recon rack will cost you somewhere between $350 - $500.
your manual steering rack will be worth a few hundred dollar to some people, they are a reasonably well sort after item for track and race cars.

I will swap you a complete power steering conversion for your manual steer setup. Hows that sound? I have everything there to convert.

Parts included:

powersteer rack
lines
reservoir
Power steering pump with bracket to bolt to the block
belt
pulley
Bottom half of steering shaft (You will need this as the splines are different on the rack end)

Let me know if your interested :)

that is a deal and a half,
if you go buy all the part you need you will be paying way more than your rack is worth.
and it appears you are both victorians so not to far to travel. match made in heaven.

Yeah well I have a few vl's so I got spares and that. I had a manual steer vl and I loved the thing haha it was good as, but the missus didn't like driving it too much as it was fairly heavy to turn with the wheel that I had on it :p
