Power steering problems

Hey I've got a 00 vt ls1 calais.. done a few kms... when at idol or sitting in gear at standstill it's like there's no power steering.. get the revs.up a but and it works but feels weaker than.it should? Where do I start?

Fluid level and belt condition. Next step, the Calais proportion steering effort to speed. From memory this part isnt individually replaceable and means you need a new rack.

Sounds like a pump problem to me but check the fluid first as above.
