Power steering pump oil cooler tubes

    While my VX Commodore was at Pedders on Thursday being lowered they pointed out that the power steering pump cooler tubes had started to corrode and become soft.
    I've now ordered a new tube from Holden for $60.00 and will have it fitted next Friday when I have the auto and engine serviced somewhere else but I'm wondering if this is a comment problem with the Commodores and does the steering pump come with an oil filter.

    Yes its common thats for sure . . . . The cooler above is ideal though.

    I never thought the power steering oil would get that hot that it would need an elaborate cooler!

    I am involved in the NSW super sprint / circuit racing, very easy to boil the power steering fluid in just 2 laps at some tracks... ;)

    I think NeddyBear only has a stocky street car, not a race car!....though he might imagine it is at times..LOL

    The power steering resevior and rack location in our vehicles is crap and so overheats the resevior and makes the material they are made from extrememly brittle over time and that can been seen when you compare a NEW unit to your old one, see below.

    So it's kind of good to up the coolers in our LS1/2/3 powered machinery and as far as I am concerned the cooler your oil runs in a "closed" fluid system like the pover steering, the longer the life of the entire system.

    Yep I have a lowered stock VX Acliam with a maxi flow cat convertor and dual maxi exhausts and the chip is different to standard, don't know what type but I do know its not potato.
    No race car here since I drive my Commodore to last and on the highway rarely exceed 100klms even in the 110klm zones.
    I already have the new tube which does a great job as standard equipment and cars theses days are only engineered to last 10 years but I do have a 1975 Toyota Crown which is still as good as the day it came off the show room floor and has only done 100,000 klms..
