For $12 why worry...and with a feedback of 99.8% on 6903 transactions I'd take their advice. Maybe the upmarket Commodores with the variotronic steering do have a slightly different pump.

VS Commodore & the VS Calais have the set up as along as the Calais is a V6.

If you had read it properly is says "Except for commodore V8 and Calais & Statesman". Perhaps it could have been written differently, but it was really saying that the seal kit is only for V6 models (because V8 models use a different type of pump).

I got a power steering pump seal kit for my VR V6 from my local repco store for around $15.

the vs calais has variable speed steering racks, and the pumps have a different valve within them therefore put out a different pressure

Yeah, the outlets (= valves) on the pumps, V6 and V8, are different between variotronic and standard. You can swap them though - there is a spring in the standard type valve = be ready to catch it.

So what your saying is that this wont work with my calais? Hmmmm if they are only cheap from retail stores I might just drop into the local sprint and see what I can get there.

Not quite correct. The pumps themselves are the same. The speed sensitive rotary control valve that varies the pressure is attached to the steering rack.

While the pumps are the same it is the outlets that are different. The standard type valve contains a spool, spring loaded, that varies position and hence restriction, with flow rate. The pump outlet for Variotronic has a fixed orifice. Swapping them is so easy it's trivial.

I have just discovered the my VQ caprice is runnin the varoitronic rack with the standard type power steer pump, tried to figure out why the steering had always been a bit weird. Point being is I have a stuffed Variotronic solenoid (wiring loom for the solenoid has somehow come to rest on the exhaust and stuff the whole thing) so if you take the guts out of the valve on the soleniod and bolt it back on and run my existing standard type pump would that be ok????

Thanks for the info....Im am prolly gonna do the non variotronic rack conversion anyways just need to get the right intermediate shaft for the conversion and go from there.

    Cheers
