Hello all.....
There is prob a thread on this somewhere already but I can't find anything.....
Ok I have just fitted new timing chain kit and oil pump to my vz wagon...it's taking me mouths to save up for all the bits.
All parts and gaskets etc I purchased from mace, today I finally filled her with oil and coolant and started her up..was running great smooth as a baby bum....but when she got close to operation temp it started to mis fire and and ping like the ignition timing had changed...but if I let it cool down it will start and run fine again till it gets up to temp again it also display drivetrain as well .......
Any help would be much appreciated and I no I prob need a scan tool...witch I don't have or can get to unless I trailer the wagon into town witch is a bit of a drive...

Air pocket, or faulty coolant temp sensor would be high on my list.

I don't really think replacement of timing chains is a DIY thing, unless one is a well-qualified mechanic, with a lot of experience and knowledge. Parts of the chains must be precisely aligned with other components on the engine. Where I am, timing chains for Commodore V6s are done by two techies over 2 days at around $2,400 to $3,000 — I have seen it done; the engine is dismantled up front, and it is a f*cking horror to witness. You really want to ensure the job is done really, really well to avoid problematic sequalae.
