VE Omega
Don't worry, this isn't another guy asking how to do it.

This thread is going to serve as a journal for my project. It's in a working state, so the first few posts are going to be older entries from my FB feed.

Here goes:

30 JUNE
This has kept me busy for the past 5 weeks. I installed a 6L50 (code 1WBA) automatic transmission from a VE Commodore into my venerable VZ Ute. I was quite sick of the 4L60Es. I was on #4 already.
I've flirted with the idea a custom controller for a while, and when this 4L60 **** itself I went for it and got a 6L50.
It cost a bit in prototyping. I had to manufacture a tail shaft. It needed its own flexplate and a new transmission cooler. Had some electronic problems at the start.
I studied a fair bit for this project before engaging in it. My neighbours are auto trans specialists and Dad was a mechanic, while I have experience in programming and electronics.
The code is written in C++. It's a bit barebones as of current, but it handles shifts fairly well.
We did all our testing on a hoist before it was ready for a road test.
As for the results - it's ******* fast. First is very steep and throws me back in my seat. Second and third have really good response too. It's been on a variety of road types already -- handling them all well.
It still looks like a heap of **** so give me a few days to tidy it up

I’m impressed bro this means I could covert my VE to a 6 speed I guess

VZ Crewman, VZ Cross 8, & ya mum.
Thanks for posting on the forum!
Really love how this stuff is slowly falling out of your head and becoming such a useful product.

I know that there is a controller out of the US for this. However, from what I can tell it suits early analogue '04 VZ's but not the VZ's that had digital(?) CanBus? that came later with 05 onward.

Will your set up work on both types of interfaces?

I have plans to get a 6 speed into a Cross 8 but I need to find someone to design a transfer case adaptor.
Once that is done, that adaptor can be used for BMW which shares the same transfer case. Then they have a way of retaining factory AWD option for their popular LS conversions in Europe.

This was one option used: http://www.torqueup.net/blog/2020/05/03/vt-vz-6-speed-auto-6l80e-conversions/

This was a great conversion as well: https://forums.justcommodores.com.au/threads/pre-ve-6-speed-auto-conversion.267342/
