Dealer has advised auto transmission has a problem identified during post service road test.

Report states Torque Converter is locking up at low speed 30-40 km/ph and resulting in vibration being felt by driver.

I haven't actually experienced the above problem.

I have however experienced minor vibration felt through the inside of the car after it was started - from cold and left to idle for a minute or two before driving off although there was never any noticeable/perceptive misfire from the engine.

Transmission has travelled only 45,000 km (replaced by new one under warranty).

Apart from the usual 'vibration suspect' :Engine Mount(s), Transmission Mount(s), Harmonic Balancer, Tail Shaft Universal Joint(s) does ANYONE have any worthwhile opinion(s)? Any input appreciated.

What gearbox is it? 5speed, or 6?? How far out of Adelaide are you? I have used DRW at O"Sullivan Beach Rd, Lonsdale, and would recommend Dave any time.
Have no idea otherwise, but would suggest a trans specialist to look at. Most dealers dont have much idea.

Hi Ian, it is the 4 speed. I am south of Adelaide. Yes I will call into DRW and seek their opinion. I fully understand that most dealers do not have the staff or the resources for accurate and meaningful diagnosis of such equipment however since the dealer is looking at repair/replacement under warranty, I intend to take full advantage of their 'offer' to diagnose - and see where it heads. if you know what I mean. I also intend to get a couple of independent opinions prior to Holden getting their hands on the vehicle.

Certainly get it under warranty if possible. And Dave at DRW specializes in the 4L60E trans, so well worth calling in.

Have been in contact with him, he suspects it maybe clutch(es) starting to disintegrate. Will need to test drive it for more meaningful analysis. Hope to see him in a day or two. Thanks for your support.

Took the car to Dave at DRW Automatics today. He serviced it. There was nothing unusual or abnormal in regard to the condition of the fluid and no unexpected 'finds' deposited in the fluid. After the service they connected up their scan tool (monitors all performance aspects of the transmission, designed to detect slippage and torque loads etc). After a 15 - 20 minute road test he reported no problems and transmission performed perfectly.
So you might ask what was all the 'kerfuffle' about? Well Holden dealer, realising that the extended warranty was due to expire end of June suggested that there was a sever vibration and problem with the Torque Converter experienced during a road test. Obviously I won't be taking it back to them for any further workshop servicing or repairs. As for their motive(s) - leave it to you to imagine !! As for DRW, highly recommended and I will definitely be going back there for future servicing etc. Service cost $150.00 - good value for money - in my opinion. Great guys too :yeah:
