    High guys,

As some of you would mite have known that I've posted a thread not long ago about rough idle problem in my car. (96' VS Acclaim)

So, In that thread I mentioned that I went to Ultratune to see what they think, and they told me to run at least 1 or 2 weeks on any 98 Octane fuel to clean my injectors to fix the rough idle.

But I don't know what fuel to use and which is better. I normally run on regular unleaded (Due to cost).
So guys, what do You recommend?? I heard that BP Ultimate is good.

I have have a stock Ecotec engine
with 2 1/2" redback exhaust system
    CAI Kit with K&N Filter
(Just in case you need this info) Thanks in advance!! :D

That sounds like ultra tune simply palmed u off!!! Think back to when ur car came out of the factory, it would of ran fine back then. The holden engineers would have designed the car to run fine on 95RON fuel. BP ultimate didnt exist back then and there was nothing around close to 98RON.

Sound like u have a fault, which u need to solve b4 u go spending money on a fuel type that u dont need.

Either run ANY premium fuel (which has injector cleanners in it) for a few tankfuls or put some injector cleaner (Nulon seems pretty good - <$15).
I'm no fan of Ultratune but they could have also said to get your injectors removed and cleaned for $200 up. I know where Slow VR is coming from - its Xmas and mechanics can pick and choose their customers!!!

I have have already spent money trying to fix up the idle.
This is what I did so far....
    New Spark plugs
    New leads.
Checked for fault codes (Came up fine = 12)
Recently replaced belt tensioner bearing. (It was making a whiny noise at high revs and was shaking up and down and the new one still does it!!!!:bang: )
Could not seem to find any vacuum leaks but will look further.
New coolant and radiator. (radiator Shat itself 8 months ago) plus new thermostat as well to make sure.
The car had a full service about 7000k's ago (Including trans)

So thats why I should try the fuel option before spending on the expensive side of things. Because I'm trying to go from cheapest options first.
Any other ideas please let me know:supersad:

Don't get too paranoid about a slightly rough idle!!!!. Does it use any coolant?....any oil?....does it run smooth above idle?...any dramas when the radiator falied 8 months ago like overheated?
Also you can try inspecting your engine in total darkness with it idleing - any ignition shorts will be visible - spend about 10 minutes in total darkness and use your ears as well (listen for the crackle). Check that the plug leads are fully pushed onto the spark plugs....sometimes they pop back off.

I wouln't really mind if it idles a little rough but the thing is it got really worse in the past 3 months and at traffic light it would sometimes but rarely stall. And with AC on, it shakes like there no tommorow!!! I mean is that worse. I had to rev up about 3000RPM to get normal acceleration with the AC on(I don't know if this is normal).
But the Idle with what I'm concerned with and what worries me is that something big waiting to happen(or already happened).
    I really appreciate your help!!!

if it does it worse with the ac on i wouldn't think it would have much to do with the cleanliness of the injectors, personally i'd ditch ultratune and choose a better place to get your car looked at.

Its not the bearing thats causing the shaking up and down, its the entire tensioner assy... Mine used to do the same thing, it would go clack clack clack and the entire pulley would bounce up n down. U gotta pull the power steering pump off to replace the entire tensioner assy. If u buy it from Repco, u will also get a new pulley and bearing, plastic pulley not metal.

I hardly think running tanks of BP ultimate is going to be cheaper, than simply replacing ur coolant temp sensor, or cleaning out ur throttle body, or replacing ur fuel filter, or cleaning out ur air filter. Or running a bottle of injector cleaner through.

When the radiator **** itself, did u cook the car? Wat does ur oil and water look like?

Ok, then will try and run a injector cleaner but I'm not confident enough to clean the throttle body it its needs taking it off. I heard from somewhere around here that people stuffing up their idle after putting it back!!!!
But yeah if someone can point me a step by step easy to understand instructions to clean the throttle body then I will give it a go.(Need to find the time tho)

Its a very simple job, do a search on here, its been covered many times b4. Ur worried about stuffing up ur idle, but urs is already stuffed! Only reason that may occur is if people are suffing around with there IAC (Idle Air Control) valve. Which really dosnt need touching. U will need a torx driver to remove it from the TB tho. Doing that will cost u the price of a can of Carb-R-Clean.

PM me, I can give you the details of a mechanic that I highly recommend, and he isn't too far from where you are.

Sounds like your throttle body and idle control could do with a good clean. How many km on the engine also? It might be worth having the injectors pulled out and professionally cleaned.
