    Hey Guys,

Just had a towbar fitted to the Statesman, to which I had supplied the towbar already. I thought I heard him say over the phone $50 for fitment, thought great I'll get it done. Dropped the car off and within an hour I had gotten a phone call back saying it was done, went to pay for it and he said that will be $250 thanks. Anyone else think this is a bit steep for just fitting up a towbar and putting in a few bolts?

Did you question why it was more?

And if it was to steep why did you not fit it yourself then?

Asking an internet forum where we have absolutely no influence on your towbar installation now that it's done is kind of silly.

So to which I answer you, Unicorns.

    Cheers
    Mat

    Unicorns. Quite.

What hozy is saying is that we have NO idea why he charged you what he did. Only the fitter will know.

You probably should have asked the bloke why its $200 more, i know i would have.

Nope. It goes way deeper than a few bolts. The man has overheads, wages, taxes, accountants fees, insurance costs, advertising bills etc. Then he needs a bit to put in his pocket.

Nope I just paid it as I must of heard him wrong over the phone in a mad rush to get it done before next weekend and I needed to get it done on a day off which for me at the moment seem very few and far between.
I attempted to fit it myself as I had removed it from my mates old car, but that was a few months a go now and he has misplaced the bolts and plates that are required for re fitment of the tow bar. I was hoping to get move of a response from people that have had tow bars fitted before for a similar model to know if I was being ripped off or not. I understand he has other expenses to pay as does everyone else, but you can't sit there and tell me that $250 for fitting a tow bar is realistic, the business has been there since before I was in Primary school, so that would be a bout 20 odd years. In no way are they going under any time soon.

I don't think you were ripped off. First off you say you did not supply the bolts and plates required to fit it, so that is an additional cost which is included in the $250. If the towbar was a light one only capable of towing a box trailer then it may only take an hour to fit, however if it is a 1500KG or 2300KG model then there are quite a few holes to line up and drill plus supply bolts etc. It is a 2 man job as well - try lifting a 50KG towbar under a car and put the nut on the bolt inside the boot!. Did the price include trailer wiring - if so that's worth another $100 minimum.
    You possibly got a bargain.

that's not a bad price actually, my friend paid 300 for the tow bar to be fitted to his 08 lancer he supplied the towbar. but the 250 does include labor bolts plates, trailer wiring if your car didnt already have it etc. its a pita to install the heavyduty towbars 2 man job.

I installed a heavy duty towbar by myself in the heat a month ago because nobody around me wanted to touch a second hand one that being said $250 sounds reasonable considering the quotes I was getting for the cheapest new towbars I could find fitted came up around $800
