Hey everyone, I’ve just purchased a LS1 stock engine and my plan is to build this engine from the ground up with a 6/71 supercharger on top with a 3 port big n ugly hat. Now I know a bit about engines but this is my first engine build and I have no idea where to start or what to do exactly. Any help would be very appreciated, I don’t exactly have a budget as I want to spread this build over a year or 2.

Hi Mate,
Welcome aboard. Check the LS modifications section and do a search for LS1 supercharger; will find plenty of info. In short there is plenty of great info here if you dig for it; if you can't find it ask.

I can't help with supercharging an LS1, but I will be watching with interest. We are in the process of tricking up an LS1 powered ute as a quick daily driver so we may be able to help with the lower build side. New cam, lifters, springs etc caused us no real issues (we think) just having troubles linking up the computer to make it all go. I trust there will be some wisdom here that helps you out.

Cheers n Beers

Hey guys thank you so much for replies and info, I’ll have a look at those threads now.
Looking at around 700-800hp, I don’t want to go to big but ide like a really nice amount of power.
Also it will be going into a 2007 VE commodore, got it cheap as **** as a roller. Also if it helps I plan to use a turbo 400 trans or maybe a power glide if I feel like spending the extra. The car will be used a road/burnout car. But will mainly sit in the shed weekdays.

What do you mean by build? Do you mean bolting the crank in ect?
There is a lot of specialised tools you require to build an engine from the ground up.
You can use plastigauge but do you really want to on a 800hp engine?

I doubt you'd get it registered with an LS1 in a VE, let alone with a blower out the bonnet. No issues with it being a burnout car though. If you dont have a budget, I'd go with a different engine, but if you want to stick with the LS1, go for new rods and pistons at least. Stock crank should be fine. E85 or methanol will help it survive as well. Best bet is to call some of the known workshops that have built similar engines and get their advice, and probably get them to supply the parts you'll need. Try Warspeed, BG Engines, Powerhouse Engines, Dandy Engines, there's plenty around.

I agree with gtrboyy, once you start talking 6-71s and Big Ugly injection hats prepare to dig really deep. If it were my 'project' on a basic budget and with little experience I'd just go with a cam/exhaust/OTR upgrade and see where that leads. Did the donor VE already come with a V8?
