Pros & cons for a stage 2 shift kit VS Performance Shift Module

whats the pros and cons of a stage 2 shift kit? behind a 5ltr .... and a price also....................cheeers this i already know A Stage 2 Shift Kit involves the installation of a new boost valve and boost valve spring, the installation of a new drilled valve body plate, the installation of a new line pressure spring, the installation of new accumulator springs, the installation of a new 1-2 Shift valve, the installation of a new actuator valve spring, the installation of a new cut back valve spring, and many more small modifications to help improve performance of the transmission.

Stage 2 is probably the best thing you can do for the auto's, just don't waste your time doing it with a thrashed out box because it will just ruin it faster.(Yes, it does. Dont bother replying to this saying otherwise) Price depends on whether you use a transgo kit or get an auto specialist to install their own kit which is always more expensive but more reliable. Dont get me wrong, the transgo kits with a corvette servo are excellent, but yeah, dont bother if your box is already or just about to be a paperweight.

Pros - Excellent mod, 2nd best bang for buck behind a greenfoam or delco tune.
- Harder, Crisper shifts
- More power, doesnt feel slushy.
- Can hold any 1,2,3 gear at redline till you change it

Cons - Cant do it with a thrashed box
- Will wear out slightly faster, but nothing to worry about if you treat it right.
- $$$ for transgo unless you put it in yourself or:
- $$$$$$$$ for transmission place custom servo kit.

Prices always depend on your own quotes, but I could have had a transgo with corvette servo supplied and installed for $500 or a Custom stage 2 shift kit from WA Diff Centre (auto specialist) for $1800 which came with a service and minor reconditioning.

Everything Vee-ard has said is spot on. I'd also recommended fitting a second trans cooler in series with the factory cooler. Keeping the heat down will keep your improved transmission alive a lot longer. Definitely worth every cent.

The only other con I can think of is that your shifts with a kit + vette servo can be a little hard for some peoples tastes. So keep that in mind if you or someone else that drives your car is greatly concerned about a comfortable drive.

I have a VS with a Stage 2 kit. The trans is far less sluggish, 2nd gear change chirps and is head jerking, but only when driving hard. When driving "normal" the gear change is not that bad. The best thing is definately the more responsive trans. Hate the sluggishness of a stock box. To sum up IMO, I would never drive another auto without one.

i agree stock is pretty sluggish and mines a v8(some like a stock box)
