loose tensioner you will hear on start up.. but they do tend to fail.. that maybe a problem, but is not your main issue ..

take that 500 bucks you were going to waste on a nistune MAF and boost controller and take the car to a machanics - or get a home tune guy around

And Ari, thats a nice chunk of Ali for 8K.

Have a bottom end knock...................more boost and timing will fix it!
Maybe run it on E85 without tuning to suit as well.

Could always paint the engine internals in glow in dark paint.

You know, until OP can afford to fix it properly

Just so you know too, there's a pretty good chance that Nistune board might not work with the Type X ECU. The regular S13 and Type X use a different board because I'm fairly sure they have a different ECU and a few wiring differences. Can look it up -http://www.nistune.com/equipment-products.php

Sounds pretty good man, yeah they handle really damn well, how much power is that pushing?

Mine is just Type X kitted, except the front bar

In other news removed turbo timer and engine start button, I don't need two hands to start a car. Found out it has aftermarket alarm which only turns on the hazards, no sirens so might remove it anyway. Wiring in some ciggy lighters as it was removed for the start button, then I can charge phone and so on in the car. I get paid monthly and saving like a motherf*cker, car doesn't need to be running anytime soon. May as well get all the shiz to rebuild the engine really, including injectors, bigger turbo and dem poncams. Can anybody tell me if stroker kits on these are worth it? And if I need different cams?
    Cheers guise

Well you got the lights and the S13 black top SR20 which is a Type X motor, so you'd want to be damn sure. P/N of the ECU will tell you what you need anyway.

Stroker kits are not good value for money unless you're going for huge power (most good ones start at around $5k). Up to you for the cams, I can't tell you what you want to do or what you're aiming for, but for each step of cams you go up you will lose lower rev range response from the turbo.

Seriously though, if you want the least problems and the best platform for improving technique stay stock.

Have you taken the rocker cover off yet?

Yeah the garnish and lights as well. I thought all 180sx came with the S13 non VCT blacktops? I have a picture of the ECU somewhere, will check the ECU sometime anyway. I figure if I'm gonna rebuild i may as well got for a GT3071r and spend the dosh for some power, I would like a bit more compression in the engine so it has a bit more push when then turbo isn't spooling. What do you mean by response from the turbo?
I didn't even see that bit about staying stock, it is a fair option though I really am happy with how it goes now anyway. Like I said in the very beginning wanted to give LS engines a run for their money which it has. Fix engine knock and just keeping it running for fun cruises is probably the better idea

Yes we took the cover off, timing chain has a little slack and all the studs are stuffed because they were way too tight

Ari as you can see frmo my quote above it was before he edited it 50 billion times :p
