Pulled heater controls out - now a strange sucking noise/sucking from pipes?

    Hi all,

Just a quicky as this sounds a bit concerning to me, pulled the fascia off around the headunit to do my amp install, put everything back together (minus a few screws.. damnit lol), everything was pretty solid, reconnected the heater rod thing and went inside. Later on I took the car for a drive and there was this weird sucking sound coming from the air conditioning/heater control panel, and the car seems to be accelerating better (in my mind probably lol).. I have no idea what that noise is, it's coming from that weird pipe thing with all the tubes, the connector with the weird shape, and the sucking (actual sucking) is coming from the black pipe/cable, and it won't stop even when I jam it into the a/c control properly. I'm pretty sure it's there to push the airvents, as the airvents won't stop blowing on my feet no matter how I set it and there's usually the same noise when changing (only this one won't stop).

It's only there when the engine is running, when I turn the engine off it stops (whines down slowly).

Does anyone have any idea how to stop this noise and fix it? I hope I didn't break something :(

    Thanks

You have probably pulled the other end off. Follow it and you will find where it goes.

Yet again you're my saviour! (thanks :D)

Inspired to have another look I went out there and saw the tube go down near the fuse cover (I think), had a look and saw ANOTHER black tube with an L shaped connector which wasn't connected but looked like it should, guessed it had to go in the hole so I stuck it in there, the suction from the original tube became more powerful and louder, stuck it back on the vent control and viola! No more noise.. guess it's always sucking, using pressure or something?

Here's another one though.. I burned my finger on this strange copper looking tube which was near there, I mean burned like it's gone white a little bit.. definately not supposed to do that right? Car was running for 2 minutes before that happened. Possibly because I'm not using coolant? The car didn't come with much coolant (too low) and I never bothered to look how to flush to replace it (wanted to use factory coolant but didn't want to mix with the unknown existing coolant in the car), so I've just been topping it up with water.. I guess I should probably flush the system and install some coolant hey? Engine temp gets well over half at times (then suddenly drops.. sticky temp guage?! lol)..

Lesson learned.. be careful when connecting the metal hot/cold rod with tubes

Those hoses that operate the vents and such run on vacuum from the engine. While the engine is running, the hoses suck.

I would flush the system ASAP and run the correct coolant. You run the risk of corrosion without the correct mix. That hot pipe could have been the pipe running to the heater core. The reason the temp gauge drops is your thermostat opening. It is supposed to do that, perfectly normal.
