G'day, I recently bought a VS ute and I am getting it ready for Qld Roadworthy Certificate. The ute is fitted with Monza Autotechnia seats will it pass roadworthy with these seats or will I have to fit commodore seats. The seats are good no rips or tears. Thanks for advise on this.

i would say you would have to fit factory seats. as in wa you need a permit to change the seats. as since we are the backward state i would believe the same would be over there

Thanks Krisp, I was thinking along those lines also but I thought a seat company like that may get them approved unlike fitting seats from another car [say Honda Prelude as example]
regards gaz

Try ringing Qld transport - they have a 1300 number for modifications (see the phone book for the actual number)...they may be OK if they have passed the Australian Standards test.

Any modification to a vehicle needs compliance in Qld - even transmission / diff or motor transplants & being the original fitment for the vehicle - still require a compliance plate - so yes your seats especially would need to be inspected for compliance & a plate issued. If you had a decent accident & someone was hurt your vehicle would be inspected & it would be defected & there would not be any insurance.

I'd still contact Qld Transport on 1300658319 - they deal with all roadworthiness items. Most replacement safety related items - uni joints, brake pads/discs, balljoints/tierod ends, bulbs etc fitted aftermarket do not have official compliance so they could also be considered to be reason for a defect notice.

I did safety certificates for years in Qld - the rules are still the same & are available on the transport dept website - if you look hard. The replacement of normal wearing parts with parts of a similar type is not a problem - Qld transport wouldn't have a clue mostly unless you manage to speak with someone that looks after that area - which is pretty hard to do. You even have to have an inspection done to remove the mod plate - theoretically.

Every time over the years when I wanted clarification on the rules no one was available & no one knew what the go was. Its best to speak with whoever you are going to get the safety cert done with as he will have the final say. You will have to contact transport over who can do the mod for the seats if you want to keep them. Good Luck

Cheers Blokes and thanks for your advise. You are all pretty well correct. I rang Qld Tport [thanks Hanko for the number] and spoke to a man called Jamie who was very helpful. He said the seats should have a yellow ADR tag attached which they have but I need to get a mod plate from an Approved Person to go through roadworthy. The person signs to say if the mod is done correctly. Also asked about the Clubsport mags on it and he said no problem as long as the track stays within the limits. It has 225 50 16 tires that are stuffed. Think the mags are 8 inch by the looks about the same width as my VP. Thanks again Gaz
