Hi guys and girls, so ive got the money to go out and get a full car sound system. But before i do that i was just wondering if there is anyway to just get a sub hooked up directly to the standard cd player that came with the car? Im not really worried about the power output as i dont want the full on bass, i just want a little extra bass then what i have at the moment, so if id be able to do that ill just save my money for something else.

    Cheers

Mate, the best way is to get Greg from ASR (first sponsor on the site) to modify your HU.

    HOWEVER,

I'm not sure if he is still operating - I've tried to contact him and failed on a number of occasions and have totally given up. It seems that audio teckies are very hard to contact, especially when you need them the most. (I'm speaking from experience in the motor racing world.)

Easiest way would be to either get a High level line to RCA converter

    OR

Get an amplifier that has HIGH LEVEL INPUT'S, This mean's that you connect You're existing speaker wire's straight into the amp's HIGH LEVEL INPUT instead of plugging in the RCA's.

Quiet a few 4ch amp's i have seen has this feature, And as you are not in for the big bass a 2 or 4 ch amp bridged on LPF would be more than enough for you're need's.

The high level to RCA converter is a little box that you connect the speaker wires to it and it convert's the signal to RCA output lead's. Then from there you connect as you normally would connect an amp up.

Either of these idea's would work great for you, And you get to keep the stock look!

Sounds like that is exactly what i am looking for! Thanks heaps mate!

So just to clarify your answer. I get this high level line to RCA converter, hook up a 4ch amp and then hook up the sub how i normally would? Does that sound about right?

Also would a place like JB Hi-Fi be able to do all this for me? I have no experience in car sound systems so i would deffinately need to get it done.

    Thanks again!

Yeh JB will do it for you no worries, Yeh after the high level converter is installed it all just hook's up normaly,
all the converter does is convert's the signal from you're speaker output's from headunit(rear normally) into a low level RCA signal, then from there just plug in the RCA's to the converter then into the amp and will all work as normal.

    EDIT:
I found one on ebay, Just to show you exactly what it is

Awesome mate! Looks like this might be the way to go! Ill go talk to JB about it all and see what they can do.

Would i need to buy that converter or would JB supply them?

They would more than likley be able to supply it but it may cost a bit more than getting it elseware.

If you're on a budget and have some time to wait id get it off ebay, they go for like $10 dollars.

Last time i was in JB was a wile ago but last time i looked there installation prices were quiet hefty compared to the car audio shop i used to work at, So maby try ring around and see if you can get it all installed cheaper than JB. I just hate to see audio store's and mecanic's charge stupidly high price's for work.

    Good luck with you're install.
