Hi all... Just wondering, I'm wanting to buy a VE SV6 and have been looking on carsales, I see the majority of them have no series number (Ie, series I/series II) and am wondering if the ones without any on them is a one or two? For example; 2008 HOLDEN COMMODORE SV6 VE MY09 Private Cars For Sale in VIC - carsales.com.au Doesnt have series II on it or anything, would this mean it's a series I? Also, what would be a definitive way to determine if its a series I or II when I go to inspect the cars? Thanks, and sorry for the silly question

Only if you care about the IQ system, different head lights (that only a Holden lover will notice), some aerodynamics that you'll never see, slightly different wheels and a piece of chrome on the boot?
For me, the IQ system makes a LOAD of difference to my enjoyment of driving it around. So much so, I wouldn't have bought a series 1 if I knew series 2 was out

I was after a Series 2 sv6, but unfortunately financial limits only allowed for a MY10 series 1. Personally, I'd say the series 2 feels more polished. Most of the differences are just cosmetic, unless you are looking at ones made before September 2009. That's when the SIDI engine came in. Changes that I can see are: - Ever so slightly tweaked front bumper, so it looks smoother on the bottom edge - New IQ system. Really the major selling point for the Series 2 - Piano gloss black touches around the cabin. Love the look - Chrome strip along boot - New rims. Not much change Also, I'd personally say the series 2 sounds a lot quieter, even at idle. The gear shifts feel smoother, and the whole package was enough for me to want to shell out an extra 10k more than what I paid for my sv6. It still remains the latest look, despite the MY12 update. The only difference I see there is the chrome around the grill, which would be easy to put in (if anyone would even want to). And, a minor fule economy increase.
$5k buys a lot of improvements to a series 1 that would make it better than a series 2 imo. wheels, suspension, exhaust, audio improvements etc. its a no brainer imo.... marketting 101.
Easiest way to spot a series 1 and 2 on car sales is to look at the wheels and head deck. I have seen series 1 put up as series 2 and I wouldn't be surprised if there were some the other way around as well. But if 25k is your limit(going buy your search fields in the link) I doubt you will find a series 2 SV6 in any of the result. But as a guide Series 1 on the left, series 2 on the right. Their is now also a Series 2 MY12 which has some extra chrome trim. Series 2 MY11 on the left, Series 2 MY12 on the right.
Go the Series II! My first VE was an MY09 SV6 manual. MY10 was the first to get the SIDI engine. The SIDI engine and shorter gearing (Series II) together present a significant improvement. I hated the instrumentation in the MY09. Red lighting and small white numbers on a light grey background. In many light conditions, it was close to unreadable for my aging eyes. I now have an MY11 SV6 manual. I changed cars much earlier than I ever have before because I was sold with the improvements when I drove a friend's Series II. Series II also have LSD as standard in the manuals, but not auto's. The car is quieter, smoother and more responsive in all road conditions. I find the IQ system a worthwhile addition, especially the ability to rip 15 CD's into the system. Saves having CD's floating around the car. Same with the inbuilt USB port. The quality of the sound system is better too. I have also found the dual zone climate control aircon a very worthwhile addition for the Series II over the standard aircon of previous models. Other small differences are individual map lights in the front, centre seat armrest in the rear, the glovebox light is back (was deleted in the MY09) and full size steel spare (at least in mine) versus the 80 KPH space saver in my MY09. I would recommend an MY11 or MY12 (Series II) over both the MY10 (Series I with SIDI engine) and MY09.5 and earlier (non-SIDI engine), unless you could not afford the difference at all.

Haha unfortunately a p plater - for the next 4 years, too. As much as I'd love a brand new one, pushing my budget to 30k is all I'm wanting to do at this time (Also putting a deposit down on a house in the next few months...) I appreciate the help guys, thanks
Aren't the brand new ones also 210kws now also? And I think the Series II are too? Not sure exactly. But might want to make sure you pay attention to that. Not sure about the rules in VIC about P Platers, but in QLD you can't have over 200kws. (Spec given by the Manufacturer)
