Also question would you feel weird having your car fix by a female mechanic?? asking this because I got told I should do mechanics at TAFE instead of IT, now I already find with IT the some guys have a problem with me knowing as much or heaven forbid MORE than them. I feel that this would be even worse when it came to cars... what do you think?? D.
I go to uni studying law whcih is totally not what i want to do but of course my family siad there was no way they were having me as a mechanic, so i gave up on that idea until about 2 months ago the guy at the mechanics down the road asked me if id be interested in doing work on the weekends so he can have them off with his family. I said done deal! He really likes it becasue he thinks there are more women bringing their cars there now and that they trust me that i wont rip them off, there is 2 guys who are the same age as me (20) and they think its prety cool that i can fix cars and still be girly the only time they get shitty is when someone asks me to fix their car instead of them. Some of the older men wont let me touch their cars, i guess thats because they are like 60 and stuff and a girl fixing cars just wasnt the done thing back then.
thats exactly what I was thinking, LOTS of female customers & pretty negitive things from older guys... the younger ones I wasnt sure about... D.
I don't care if a girl can out do me in a car it basically comes down to the money you can put into your car anyway. And I definatley don't havea problem with female mechanics. My sister is an apprentace mechanic and has helped me with a lot of stuff on my car. She knows more about working on them but I know alot more about the modifcation side of things. She has a lor of problems with males especially the older ones not wanting her to touch there cars. A couple of times when we've been working on my car at my Dad's workshop when he wasn't there and a customer would come in and talk to me. It doesn't matter that I'm there in old jeans and a t shirt and shes got a shirt with her name on the pocket and a big badge, with the company name on it, on the pocket. One guy actually insisted I look at his car and not her evenw hen I explained I knew nothing cars and I couldn't give hima qote while my sister could.
Your right Dannc - lots of older men are male chavenist pigs having been raised in a differant generation, where the female is supposed to be inside making pies and staying out of men's business.
I havnt read much of this thread but I will just say I think it makes a chick more attractive when heir into cars!
there is something about chicks who like to get down and dirty with cars, my girl is really intrested in cars now, ever since she drove my car she loves commodore, her dream car is the concept torana
my old man is a TAFE teacher doin auto, he said his best studints are chick, guys just want to get it done and thats it, but chicks like to be precise and to do it right
i reckon its real great that there are chicks who take part in this forum. gives me missus something to live up to!!! go girls, stick with the holdens, hope the blokes are as good to you as the commodores!
chicks who like cars is awsome.. its better for us blokes especially when they like modified cars.. then we can spend as much money on our cars as we wont without getting into fights cmon!! we need more chicks who like GOOD cars instead of those gay econobox 4cyl crap! And that will stay a dream car forever more

HI GUYS ANOTHER CHICK IS HERE... Yeah i love my cars and i no my bit about them... guys get a shock when i tell them i do work on cars like the rust.. wiring...oil...tyres ect but i love it.. :thumbsup: but i find the thing that is most intersting is i can sit there and talk to a guy for hrs on end about cars and they are really intersted in what i have got to say and there not tryng to be mr tough... i think guys look at us in a diffrent way cause we know cars.. cause some guys like the girly girl type of girls but others like the chicks that are not scared to get there hands durty.. and sorry but i like my fare share of burn outs and driftys and i never complan when im in the car with my mate and they do that... but on the other hand there are some chicks out there that have this massive fight and almost brake up or what ever the guys is to them cause the guy was driving the way he was... yeah ok to a serten exstent yeah slow down or stop showing off but not make a big seen... and you know what pisses me right off is when a girl is only going out with a guy for there car...
Yeah well between me and my fiancee Im the one that enjoys cooking and am quite capable of doing any of the cleaning around the house, but she the one that really gets off on power tools, yeah im comfortable using plenty of tools but she loves them!!! :thumbsup: Really I wouldn't mind if a chick outdid me in stuff like that, cos its just a case of good on them for going well But neither me or my fiancee drive a commie but it is a but of fun to get into my future father-in-law's manual VS ute 50th ann (apparently only 2 were made in manual for the 50 years)
I get funny reactions alot of the time from guys.. not so much anymore because alot know me locally as I've been competing in the club motorsport scene for a while now and most people know me. I often race my other halfs VB stroker and sometimes beat him in it, as well as driving our Galant Rally car and GTO Galants at autocross, hillclimbs etc... Most recently I helped rebuild & change the engine in my VR road car. I guess the only thing that shits me is even though I'm over having to prove myself to anyone - is the condescending attitide that some guys have just because I don't seem to fit the 'girl into cars' stereotype and I am very competitive, but I guess that comes with the territory (which is a shame).
i tell you what. as a mechanic i am taught that we need know nothing about cars but how to erad tech data and follow instructions. i do a bit better then that but my partner (who i met on my course) can tell you what number is stamped on the top bolt of the bell housing of a vn without missing a beat. she enjoys showing me up and although can be a tick is great at the garage when my mates used to walk in kick the shoes sticking out from under the car and get the response "**** off konkers in the smoko room" and they almost faint when they see she has done the work on their in half the time it takes them. dont poke **** coz some chicks are damn good. my vr still kills her vt tho. lol! not that good
