VE SS Z-Series 6M Sedan
Hi all,

I am about 10 weeks into a new SS manual (4500Km).

Every morning when I first start the car and drive off, change gear at normal rpm from first to second, the very first gear change feels very tight and "clunky". Is this something others experience? First gear change, cold oil, little oil on syncro clutches and rings, quite normal?

Or is it possibly an issue with my box? Even when warmed up the change from first to second always feels tighter than the other gear changes.

Thanks,

Darren

Looking for a VE
Yeah mines the same for the first 10-20 mins of driving. Mines a 2009 with 70k on it. So yeah, same deal. I would assume it's just how they are.

VE SS Sportwagon
I purchased a new SS sportwagon last October (3500kms) and mine does the same thing. At the 3000km service I pointed this out to the Holden technician only to be told I don't know how to use the clutch properly. I'm 56 years old have owned manual vehicles all my life including 4 SS's, SLR5000, 5.0 SS torana hatch, 4 4wd's and 2 utes. The truth the technician had no idea. At least if it is a potential problem it is recorded with Holden.

Yep, just normal run of the mill VE SS gearbox.

You will also find the drive train is pretty lazy and sloppy on these things.

Cheers.

I have a short shifter in mine and it helped a lot !! Although the other guys are spot on , unless there up to temp they are a
"clunky" box at the best of times.

I've driven a number of manual VE SS's. Never had that problem.

Darren,

My SS-Z with 4,000kms on it is pretty much the same mate. Just how they are i think although my mate who bought exactly the same car as me has a completely different box and clutch feel. His box is heaps slicker but the clutch is light and his car doesnt go as hard as mine nor does it sound as good. Go figure hey!!

How are you liking the spongy brake pedal? lol
