Hey Guys,

Looking at a cam install for my SSV.

IMG_1063.jpg

Model: 2006 VE SSV Sedan
Colour: Black
Engine Type: L98 6.0L V8
Engine Mods: Orssom OTR, Mafless Tuned
Power: currently 241rwkw
Exhaust: Hurricane 1 7/8 headers, HM/Perry 2.5" catback, 200 CPI cats
Gearbox: 6 Speed Manual
Brakes: Standard Calipers with slotted DBA Discs
Suspension: King Springs SSL's all round with Monroe GT shocks

so thats all the car has done to it so far.
basically i want a cam thats gonna let me join the 300+rwkw club, and give that nice lumpy note on idle.

i have been looking at getting a cam install package through VCM.

my main question is:
can i get a cam package that will take me to the 300rwkw mark, where that is all that needs to be installed and thats it?

because im feeling like with 300rwkw i would need to install a Heavy duty clutch (currently have stock standard clutch)
and also upgrade the diff gears from stock 3.46 to 3.7's - but i dont know if its 100% required.

is there anything else that needs upgrading when doing a cam install?

this car is a daily driver if that changes anything.

not the most mechanically minded person, so sorry if these seem like dumb questions.
your tips and thoughts are appreciated.

thanks,
Timmo

i have been told by the installer that i can do just the cam and valve spring package to start with.
keeping stock clutch and diff gears.

then he advised that before i go on the dyno or to drags i get the heavy duty clutch installed.

he said there shouldnt be any need to go to 3.7 diff gears unless i plan to race it, which i dont.
as a daily driver he reckons to just leave the 3.46 diff gears in, And eventually do the heavy duty clutch before any dyno runs\modifed tunes. thoughts?

Give VCM a ring and ask them, they are very easy to deal with and if your not sure on what you need they will help you out.Your diff will be fine, but the 3.7's would be more :driving:

You should ask how much an engine out job would be!
Then cam and clutch can go in at the same time and it shouldn't be anywhere near the price to do them separately.

Worth a thought

So i've opted for this cam

217/225@50 .600/.578 LSA113 - VCM 21

supposed to be around the 300Rw/Kw mark

should be fitting it next week - will post results once done!

Nope - VCM tells me i dont need to with this cam but can always do it at a later date to get more pull/acceleration out of it.
