ok what if i stay the 9:5:1 compression of the L36 and freshen up just the bearings and crank i heard M90 makes more power on the higher comp and boost kicks in at a lower RPM that with a tune would that work? just to freshen the crank and bearings is about $600 inc derlivery

Isn't this exactly the same as the top swap you already have? Just do it like for like and get the Mace tune.

im thinking i might try for a low kms ecotec from a vy and try 1 last time Ive spent heaps between getting tow to mechs, getting mech to wire it and link ecu and fix a water leak from front of manifold to now spending 230 for a tow to tuners and back 40kms away then the tuner wanted 1030 in total so one last hit then i might part with it and strip it. I am only keeping this atm because i have done the whole interior be for it went to tuner vz interior black vz rear black seat front ve black seats acquired commodore internationals all round for it and a 2 2/1 cat back exsaust

Doing all of the stuff you just said you want to do won't fix knock, has nothing to do with knock. The fuel is detonating, how will changing the bearings change that? 6.5k is suuuper upper limit for these engines in stock form/compression (even for a L67) so it's not like it's unexpected and it's not like you drive there all the time. Did you put the regular intake back on? Tuning on 98?

You still got the auto yeah? Just FYI, if you go to a Link you won't have any way to use your gearbox with it.

Understand now, rod knock and regular knock are two different things.
