Hi guys, I just have some questions about changes made between the VY and the VZ. 1: Drive by wire in the VZ - How is this different to the VY's throttle? Someone also said something about cruise control being 'integrated' in the VZ's - How is this better? 2: How is Electronic Stability Program an improvement over Traction Control? 3: Does the VY 4 speed auto have torque management and/or abuse mode like the VZ autos? Do the manuals in either model have these things? 4: I've heard the VZ has better steering, suspension and braking. How is it different to a VY and how much better/worse is it? 5: Which is cheaper for parts and servicing? Which is most reliable? That's all for now. Thanks guys!
drive by wire = computer controlled throttle, the old cable is deleted and electronically controlled, "wire" means electrical wires. Traction control only controls wheelspin on acceleration, stability control does acceleration and decelleration via a yore sensor. Not all vz have stability control. Vy engines are cheaper to repair and far more reliable in terms of they don't sludge and last a long time, the alloytec tend to sludge easy with poor oil intervals. Alloytecs feel a lot better to drive engine wise and are a more refined engine
alloytecs are alot smoother at high rpm. the alloy engine block means that there is less weight on the front end and the steering improves as a result. Also, if you get the sv6, it has the same suspension as the v8 (i think) and its pretty good coming from my own experience... the vz throttle is quite abit slower to react than the vy throttle but the smoothness makes up for it..didnt know vy's had some sort of traction control.. but the vz one is ok..just gotta turn it off if u wana do skids... id say vy is cheaper to service but you will save money with the vz in terms of fuel economy cos they are pretty efficient engines... my 2c
Question 4. Pretty sure the suspension is the same through vt - vz. Not sure about the steering. The vy and vz had the same brake callipers except for the vz ssz and my06 ss which had larger callipers. But not sure on the master cylinders.
The main suspension difference is in the swaybar drop links. Vy strut tube is same as VR-VY and uses a pillow bush at the top and ball joint at swaybar. VZ uses ball joints on both ends so the strut tube has a different swaybar link bracket.
