ok.... i got the car back from a service today and was told my input shaft bearing is making some noises... its a vz 6spd ls1 Now the car yard says its not covered under the extended warranty.. my question is, would that part be considered part of the gearbox components or clutch components?? Cheers for the help
I don't see why/how it wouldn't be covered by a warranty. You are doing *real* well to trash a input bearing nomatter how bad you abuse or thrash any car. I'd consider it a gearbox component. Clutch = clutch and pressure plate + maybe throw out bearing (very maybe). Read your fine print is my advice. Reaper
yeah, i did, and i quote "All mechanical components within the transmission houseing. Excludes bell housing, manual transmission components and torque converters" i'm not saying i don't drive the car hard at times, and gioing by what your saying is these bearings are hard to "break" its funny, they even recommend going to holden to get it fixed, because they don't have the tools to fix it.
Hammer the **** out of it 24/7 and you won't #### a input bearing. As far as I'm concerned it's part of the box. I'm not sure what your quote actually means. Covered or not covered?? Reaper
to me it means its covered if its not part of the clutch componentry.... i'll be ringing holden to find out how much one of these things are and ask if they are a gearbox component.... might even ring the accc and find out
Those extended warranties usually nominate the covered components by stating "all internally lubricated components" or something similar. The input shaft bearing is most definitely "internally lubricated" and is part of the transmission, not the clutch.
yeah, what i quoted before is all they say about the transmission in the warranty... definantly will be questioning it tho, cos my guess is, they aren't cheap to replace......
Well, the input shaft is definitely mounted "within the transmission housing", so it's difficult to see how they can argue otherwise. Good luck. Those extended warranties are often worded in such a way they are expensive dunny paper and little else.
yeah, well, it was a free one with the car and then they kindly upgraded me to a 5 year one, to which i prob paid for in the finance
Ok update, their service manager agreed that it was covered under the warranty when he was told its not an external part of the gearbox....
Ah yup, they're outsourcing the work and I'll be without the car for a week... I'll prob ask where it's going and see what condition the clutch is in while it's there
Mine says excactly that. TRANSMISSION Internally Lubricated Parts Only. Transmission Case If Damages Are Due To Failure Of Internally Lubricated Components.
