hi guys! Just wanted to know if anyone can post up some times done down the qtr mile by VN-VS v6 commodores non turbo and non supercharged. any other mods count (bolt ons only) and if u can specify what mods they are. This would be a good starting ground for anyone looking to do some good times in their V6. thanks

I think Street Commodores Magazine did a 13.86 second in their car before they twin turboed it. Then she was doing 11.9 seconds.

It also ran in the 12's I think when the turbo first went on before the intercooler, anyway kwik6 your car would be just as fast as vengence

Yeah I dont see many real quick N/A V6's going round, I guess the cost factor is always an issue. The gemini goes nice with the V6 in it, but I must say, its not very far off the EA I drive daily(it runs mid 14's, full electrics and LPG).

The ford 3.9 & 4.0L are heaps easier to get going. You can run a 14 sec 1/4 with $1000 worth of mods spent in the right area. Would be good to see the same sort of results out of the V6.

I dont think you'll get a v6 vn into the 14 seconds for $1000 without something done about the stock inlet manifold, but you might just sneak a 14.8 or 14.9 with a dual cat exhaust,camshaft,CAI/memcal/filter that's about the only way I can see it being done for under $1000

ok Im off to calder park drags with my friends vn we been working on. about 3 weeks from today i would like to know if anyone else from the melbourne area would like to attend the friday night meeting and we have a shoot out between n/a VN's. Will be awesome fun i say!! Or we can just meet down Dandy-frankston rd lol jk. Mods we have done are cold air intake, k and n pod suspended behind front bar, v8 throttle body, manual gearbox with heavy duty clutch, memcal chip, red back 2 1/2 inch exhaust (no cat), dunlop semi slicks, freshly dyno tuned engine and entirely gutted out interior to the bare metal. Even without extractors and lsd i feel this car can achieve a high 14 sec pass just judging by its success out on the streets against wrx's and other 5 litres. Personally i beleive the driver is the biggest mod. Would anyone like to join me out there??

Oh yeah well striped right back like that and no cat and a manual, I think you'll sneak into the 14's, if it can keep up with a 5 liter it has to be running at least 15 flat anyway. How much power did it pull on the dyno?. I live 400ks from Melbourne so I can't go racing there :) but intend on taking my VP to the local strip once I get it sorted out. I'll miss the opening meeting next weekend but should catch the second one, whenever that will be

I live about 10 mins from calder, but i normally get too frustreated if I got there without a car to race, and I dont want to race mine at least untill the shift kit goes in and I set up some CAI.

So the memcal makes a big difference on these v6's?

Who should I speak to, how much? :)

simc, I don't think a shift kit and CAI will change your times much, make sure your throttle body can open all the way buy a new korean paper filter from supercheap and manual shift to 2nd and third at 5000-5200 rpm and see if you can run a 15.7 : ) a good memcal on a bone stock car that was running hard on the stock memcal should drop your 1/4 mile .2 of a second over the 1/4 mile, more on a modified car (that's for a V6)

One of my mates did a mid 14 in his vs calais. I'll try and get a time slip off him. His is a reasonably worked NA ecotec. Rockers, Cai, 70mm throotle body, headers and exhaust and and lsd. Its probably got more I'm forgeting about. Way too much money spent for a 14. I don't think I'd ever be able to mod a 6. To easy to get power out of an 8.

add up the costs of running a v8 and you will probably find it was more worth while doing up yer 6 lol. for instance: a v8 has a larger petrol tank and costs around $20 more to fill her up. It will chew through the fuel before your 6 does so your filling her up alot more times throughout the year. a v8 will go through a tank and a half before a six goes through one tank of fuel so if u add the costs up, $20 + $10(half tank extra for v8) = $30
    $30 x 52(weeks in year) = $1560

So $1,560 of mods a year can be done on ur v6 a year = 2 years u have a turboed v6!!!! =lots more power

    dont yas think?
