Are the tips on the Marriage Savers the same as stock SS?

VE redline exhaust is the same as SS. For SV6 you'd want the mufflers off a AFM model that are triple baffled, for looks only not sound, manual model mufflers are twin baffled and will sound **** on the 6. I have a set of AFM mufflers in top nic that were taken off the car at 1000km that I'll sell for $100, pick them up from me in Ballarat and we can fit them before you go if you want.

Is it the Y type tips I should be looking at getting to put on an sv6 or are the non afm/manual like that as well?

I have seen both twin tip and Y tip so getting confused!

Y tip is AFM and if putting on a 6cyl is what you want.

Twin tip is manual and will sound **** and drone on a 6

Don't shoot me.... I'm sure it's been mentioned on this forum many times, but I can't find it...

I assume changing the rear mufflers only won't affect your Holden warranty?

When I get around to doing mine I am just going to keep the originals!

A dealer once told me that if you mod anything just put the original stuff back on if something was to go wrong! I guess this is ok as long as they don't log what you have done!

Bringing up this ol thread but wanted to relay an experience I had today with a NSW law enforcer just outside Kempsey.
At the end of the bridge on the bypass I was randomly selected from a roadtrain of vehicles for a RBT. I pulled into the setup area.
Mr Policeman goes around the rear of my car for a sticky beek then proceeds to inform me the installed setup is illegal and a $177 per exhaust fine will apply. I was a little surprised as I had done a little research before buying the rapid j pipes and was satisified I would have no difficulties.

After some discussion he agreed not to fine me but suggested I get a decibel check and ensure the reading is less then 100 AND get the system checked at a dealer to ensure its legit.

I didnt realise the install was illegal.

Thoughts? Anyone else had this issue?

So he had a decibel meter or electronic ears? This happened to a mate of mine on his bike a few weeks ago. Threatened to defect his bike if he didn't remove the aftermarket pipes " if I see you again". It's an XVS 950 FFS not a Harley. Whatever d head...

    Wouldn't worry about it personally.

Marriage Savers are 85 decibels but J Pipes are louder. I've made it through the bi weekly RBT on my way to work with no problems ever with my J Pipes.
The fine is a cop suspecting your car is illegal and you are required to go to the department of transportation to verify it's not. Guilty until proven innocent.
Clearly he thought better of it - pays to not be an a$$ to cops as a rule because they can make your life less fun.
Anecdotally, the XR8 boys have been copping (pun intended) fines for their exposed pod filters - despite it rolling off the factory floor as such and the NSW police XR8 having the same setup. If the cops are going to play Mr. Mechanic then just step them through your car with a gentle knowledgeable hand and they'll most likely not bother you.

So is the illegality purely linked to his perception of it being over the legal decimal limit? Or otherwise?

I believe the legal limit is 90.

I spoke with rapid about their marketing of marriage savers being 85 decibels, and they said it shouldn't be on there.

I have marriage savers, and I can't imagine them being 85 or under.

Muffler function is to muffle the noise from the exhaust. We're altering that component to make it louder. There's a threshold of how loud you can go before you are breaking the law.

Yeh this was probably my 7th RBT in last 12 months. No issues til yesterday.
I suspect it was probably the dropping of gears as I pulled in that roused his curiosity. Because I dont think its that loud when cruising along.
    Never mind.

I'd say the marriage savers are safe, as mine is a bit quieter than my boss's GTS (before he made it louder.

Be careful about taking it to any government dept (EPA, RMS, or whatever) to have it tested because if it is too loud they'll fine you hard. I copped this about 25 years back when I got a defect from the cops and was then told to get it tested at the EPA. $1600 in fines....

It's why I have the stock cans to swap over in the event of an issue that requires me fronting the Department.
