    Hi all,

I acquired a 2010 VE Commodore International. There is a rattle sound coming from the passenger side engine bank. It is noticeable only at low revs. When the engine idles at +-1100rpm, there is no rattle. When it drops to +-550rpm it starts to rattle.

The engine has 150kms on it. It had timing chain/tensioner/guides replaced at 140kms. The rattle is affected by revs, speeds up with revs.

It has been rattling for 7000kms plus, that I know of. Since it has had three oil changes, two flushes, oil filters replaced. (5-30)

Cam actuator has been replaced, made no difference. Purge solenoid replaced.

Oil pressure was tested to be at low end of acceptable range.

The car does NOT suffer any driving issues. No check engine light. There is no noticeable power loss.

Could anyone help me diagnose this sound please? Any ideas?

    Thanks.

Get your torch and have a look at the rear pass side top of motor
should be a black box with a vac line attached(don't know what it's called)
With the car running touch this box and if it's stuffed you'll have to replace it.
    Pretty easy job.

Thanks. What is the function of this box you describe above?
PS. The video is uploaded now.

It's called the Evaporation purge valve solenoid
It recycles fuel vapours from tank to the intake
Should only blow one way when you disconnect
There is reference on this forum.
    Good Luck.

Thanks but this is what I meant by ‘purge solenoid replaced’. Wish that solved it. :) Easy fix indeed.
