At least use the RB20 or RB25 instead of the SR....I owned an S13 180SX with an SR20 for a couple years and they're a great engine, but they need a lot of revs to start making power. In a heavier car, they'd struggle in traffic around town. The RB makes similar power but more torque and at lower revs - up the boost by a couple psi and fit an intercooler and you've got the makings of a quick ride.

Better still, fit a Toyota 1JZ from a Soarer. Relatively cheap, designed to lug around a heavier car, tough as nails and with some cheap mods, you can make some very serious power and torque. Or be really original and fit a Lexus V8.....

seen a couple of vs ute with front mount intercoolers, just considering all the cash and time invested into this conversion, is it worth it? whos done it? how does it travel?

90% of the utes/cars u have seen don't have a foreign engine in them like a nissan.

They are either supercharged or some are turbocharged.

if i was u i wouldn't was my time and money on a conversion [unless it was a stroked 304 (350 or 383) or LS1/2].

u'd be better off to have the heads worked over, large injectors, twin throttle body intake manifold. a really good exhaust (twin 2.25 in with twin cats and mufflers), K&N filter, a decent cam, roller rockers (1.91:1 if u don't get a cam) and a new chip. also after this don't forget about the clutch or converter!!

This should cost less than a nissan conversion.
and u should net around 210'ish at the fly.

Form there u go get a Toyota super charger and front mounted intercooler, up grade injectors.

This set up will push 250 Kw's at the fly easily, but don't forget to watch the boost and maybe change the cam to suit forced induction.

a simple turbo charger mod:
Re-positioned throttle body, VT supercharged injectors & memcal, Garret T3 turbo (@5psi), K&N air filter + a decent exhaust netted 144rwkw's on a VT with an auto.

i'd stick with the motor u have and work on a planned buget.
for 5 grand u could build a 200+ kw v6 that would kill a lot of street cars at the lights!!
cheers

please i beg u don't put a sr20 in a commodore it was bad enough they put one in a mustang in Tokyo drift

For anyone thats interested !!

The motor they put in the Mustang is an RB26 !!! not a SR20 !!!

I know it came out of an S15 Silvia but the Silvia has had a motor transplant !!!
If you pause the movie when they walk out the back of the workshop and open the bonnet of
the crashed S15:rip:, Thats an RB26DET in there, FA SHIZZLE...

You can also pause it when they take the Mustang for it's first drive after having the motor put in !! Just as
it comes around the bend the camera go's over the motor (no bonnet on car) and you can clearly see it's an RB26 there too !!

Just thought I'd clear that up...:w00t:

puttin in the rb26 was the logical choice as they had no engine for the mustang and no car for the rb26, logical but dumb.

Nothing dumb about using RB26 engines - 300kW there for the asking, and heaps more if you want to get serious.

wouldn't the Shelby GT500 engine be a better option.
5.4L DOHC 32V V8, 500hp (SAE net) @ 6000 and 480lb.-ft. @ 4500 lb.-ft.

up the boost on the super charger, change exhaust and computer and there would be more fun to be had.

its all about displacement!!

but i guess the RB26 was the logical choice

Maybe the Japs (rightly or wrongly - mostly rightly I would suggest) have a total disdain for American-designed engines. Nothing much wrong with the 4.6L quad-cam in the current Stangs but it's not exactly special. They're not real big on V8's over there anyway, none of their sports cars have anything more than 3.5L 6-cylinders. Unlike most Yankee sports cars, these are also capable of turning corners.

The RB26 has god-like status in Japan and is put in just about everything. There are RX-7s and Supras getting around with RB26's. I imagine they did the Mustang for promotional purposes - it's certainly unique.

but its turbo bro so its like fully sic bro and the pfhssst sound when you back off bro... omg, hang on brb bro i got a stiffy

lmfao!!! u muZza!!! thats the funniest thing ive read for a while.

as for the conversion....sr20 would b ridiculus imo. rb20's go hard as in a vl....and sticking to vls is the way, less stress with the conversion:thumbsup:

*drools at rb20 conversion*
