does anyone know anything an sr20 black top will sit lower and further back in the engine bay making it handle better but your best bet is a rb25 with rb30 bottom end or if you have the cash 2j for sure i have a 97 type x 180sx putting out 465rwhp on 23psi and theres no commodore out there worked or supercharghed that keeps up with it on the streets sr20s are a strong engine and with the right internals there bullet proof like mine so any commodore drivers out there think that big cubes are all wat you need feel free to run me on the street imports are thenew blood and there goona be for a long time: rip:

please i beg u dont put a sr20 in a commodore it was bad enough they put one in a mustang in tokyo drift
it looks like a mustang
smells like a mustang
sounds like a NISSAN:D
see my point?

bahaha that was an rb26 bud hahahaha

I definately wouldn't do an SR20 conversion to a commodore if they are the 4cyl engines I'm thinking of. If you really want to do a rice conversion and money is no object track down a R32 godzilla engine. These things can push 1000hp in stock format.

no they dont

They weigh 101kg less than a VS... And the engine is far from spectacular in stock form.

Is it worth spending enormous amounts on a conversion to lose 2 cylinders and 39NM of torque? Plus the VS hits peak torque and power at better rev ranges:

Nissan 200SX S15 with the SR20DET:
Maximum Torque 265Nm @ 4800rpm
Maximum Power 147kW @ 6400rpm

VS Commodore 3.8L V6:
Maximum Torque 304Nm @ 3600rpm
Maximum Power 147kW @ 5200rpm

stock form there not a massive power house, but with a 3" turbo back exhaust, fmic and some boost and its not hard to make 180kw atw from a silvia, you got to spend a couple of k on modding at n/a commo v6 and still get no where near 180.
Most of the sr's i build make around 250-300kw i havent seen any n/a v6's getting any where as close to this.
I have just bought a vr ute for our work to cart engines around and tow our drift car and man these things are gutless, i dont care what those specs say a commo v6 is a slug compared to an sr20.

got to admit that does sound gay as aids nismo.

that said yes an sr in a vs will shave off a few kg thats for sure, im not sure what a v6 and box weighs but an sr with manifolds, box, turbo and ancillaries weighs around 125kg, alloy block, alloy head and so forth.
moving it back further into the wirewall and keeping it low to center the weight balance and lower center of gravity will certainly help the way they handle.
but to be honest i wouldnt waste the massive open engine bay of a commodore with an sr, i would atleast get an rb25 cheap to get a hold of, good power in stock form, responds well to a few mods and very reliable.

Maybe the Japs (rightly or wrongly - mostly rightly I would suggest) have a total disdain for American-designed engines. Nothing much wrong with the 4.6L quad-cam in the current Stangs but it's not exactly special. They're not real big on V8's over there anyway, none of their sports cars have anything more than 3.5L 6-cylinders. Unlike most Yankee sports cars, these are also capable of turning corners.

The RB26 has god-like status in Japan and is put in just about everything. There are RX-7s and Supras getting around with RB26's. I imagine they did the Mustang for promotional purposes - it's certainly unique.

what about the vh45? killa jap v8, here is one in an s14 YouTube - VH45de S14 first drive again 2008
dont rule out japs and 8's there not retarded they just know how to make power out of small engines rather than using an ancient technology of increasing capacity to increase power

i may be biased :yeah: my garage

ummm ok so i agree that the v6 isnt a horsepower factory, but are u saying that u cant get as much power out of an ls1/2 as u can out of a 2L 4cyl.....wtf?? i cant be bothered to describe how dumb your statement was...

in case u haven't realised yet this is a COMMODORE website...this is a site for people that like commodores....please go find a more suitable site for you. im sick of people coming on here just to stir up crap.

Search for Fanga Dan, in the NZ Drift Circuit he's got a VY Exec with a RB26DETT

Don't get me wrong but there's no replacement for displacement.

Hows this for thought... How come they make stroker kits for these small 4 Cyl engines? if it didn't matter they wouldn't make the displacement bigger.
