Ok - for anybody contemplating building I thought I'd lob this up as it covers most of the bases. I have a property where I'm building a unit in the back yard and more or less gutting the existing 1950's front weatherboard and bringing it into the 21st century.
Just as a cover off, I am a registered builder and do this stuff every day. Here's hoping nothing crops up in my own place I can't deal with
U1 originally had the kichen where the living is and visa-versa. The laundry was bigger with the can where the pantry is to go. There used to be a wall dividing the meals/living area which I have removed. The bathroom had a large(ish) shower, but no bath and a vanity that I'm sure looked good in 1978.
U2 should be relatively straight forward (I hope!). I spent a fair amount of time on the design trying to get 3 bedrooms into it whilst still satisfying all the rescode requirements. I know of plenty of houses in the area who have managed it via a 'slight of hand' but I'd prefer to do it on the level for any number of reasons.
If anybody has any questions, feel free to ask. Happy to help fill in any blanks in the building/town planning/subdivision process that people may have
