I have just come back from a weekend in Kalbarri, whilst i was there decided to go and look at 'natures window' which happened to be down a 26km corrugated dust track, I jostled the idea in my head for some to as to whether i should risk it not, but i decided to go for it. Well once i had got out of there i was getting alot of rubbing noises coming from the rotors, i figured that it was probably a some stones that had got stuck and they would probably find their own way out. Needless to say my car is still making these grinding noises i have whipped out and changed the front disc pads, and removed the rear pads also but there wasnt any debris caught, but the drivers side rear brake is still making a rubbing noise when i make a left turn i cant figure out whats goin on. sorry for the long winded story but thought it best that i provide as much info as possible.
Oh i now also have warped rotors on the front, wondering if the constant rubbing of the stones over 500k's did that?
right well i just pulled the back end apart, and it appears that the handbrake mechanism has seized up or something else in there has gone astray as i can hear rattling when i turn the disc by hand. However i cant get the disc off because something is jammed inside the disc. any suggestions?
You might need to loosen off the handbrake adjuster by pulling one of the rubber plugs out of the disc so you can poke a screwdriver through the hole to loosen the adjuster at the bottom. If the disc is stuck to the hub you might need to give it a smack with a hammer to loosen it. Hit it between the studs
i had a VX SS at work not long ago with the same problem.... When i eventually got the disc off i found the lining had cracked and broken off & the handbrake drum had a deep grove in it.... When i spoke 2 the customer he told me he had adjusted the handbrake about 5 days b4 he had the problem lol.... 1 way 2 get the disc off, if u have a soft hammer or mallet spin the disc and hit the back of the disc where the caliper bolts on....
Thanks so far for your suggestions, well ive just spent the last hour with a rubber mallet wacking sh!t out of the disc, couldnt do what the last poster suggested, so i had to get a long flat screw driver to leaver the right hand side of the disc whilst hitting the exposed part of the braking surface on the rear of the disc it came off eventually but the mallet has seen better days! turns out where the bottom of the handbrake shoe connects to the mechanism which operates it, it had come away so the handbrake was 'on' on the rear half of the liner which was giving me my noise. so off to holdens monday to get spare parts .
