Vl Calais mock up
hey guys, iv just bought my first vl and I’m looking into doing a rear disk brake conversion, iv got my hands on a vt lsd diff and need to know what other parts .ect’ that I need. I know I need 28 spline axles.
Will the vt diff just swap over or do I need to swap the housing? And what’s involved with the brake lines and handbrake cable?
Or has anyone found a good walk through online?

Pretty sure it won't work as easy as you would like. What gave you the idea a VT diff will fit without a stupid amount of work? VT are commonly IRS, do you have a VT beam axle?

I will tag @vc commodore and @delcowizzid they both have a lot of knowledge on the older Dores and will point you in the right direction.

VT are only IRS.

The diff center will swap in, but you'd be better off getting a complete VN-VS live axle. I doubt the 28 spline shafts from VN-VS will work with the VL diff housing as they have more track than the VL housing.

That's what I thought, but I was confused at how he intended to use the VT housing and thought maybe there was VT beam axle that I had never heard of.

Won't a full VN beam axle be wider and create other problems? The OP really needs a VL BW turbo diff IMO.

I'm actually wondering if the OP has an earlier diff housing and not VT at all?

Vk diff you run the later centres and axles but from from memory 20 mm off one side and get the spline 30 mm longer and vl diff same but both sides

Scavenge rear brakes off vp/s & get handbrake cables shortened (better off just get complete unit cheaply off fb or gumtree

28 spline Lsd usually cheaper/easier from ford variant

Axles buy new or not bothered by getting 2 long vn/s cut & resplined.

Comes down to budget or just keep driving with stock n/a diff while collecting parts needed.

You can fit discs to your 25 pline axles just needs different axle seal.

You sure you need a different seal. I bought a beam axle kit and it said on the box fits HQ - VS live axles

My last VL N/A 6cyl manual had disc brake rear from the factory and manual steering
Also had sump guard and country pack suspension.
